69 Charger clock 12v at the power source ?

I would like to check my clock, can I apply 12v to the tab on the back of the clock ?

The clock runs on a 12v feed so that would work.   Don't forget to ground the housing.

The interesting thing about the original clocks is, is that there actually a mechanical wind up. They don't continuously use 12 volts. If you sit in your car with the engine off, about every minute or so you will hear a clunk. Thats the coil/solenoid moving to wind the clock.

I tested those clock in fact with a single 9 volts battery. That's enough to wind up the spring once the points get power and short winds up the spring and gear.
