I a lookn at the 360 stroker short block for my 72 to replace the 318.I was going to do the 383 swap ,but i helped my best friend out and let him have it for his car i sold him since it was its original motor. So now I decided to just stick with the S.b. easier than getting different mounts and swapping all the accesories.
I am leaning on the mopar strker short block since i can get it at my discount and save me some time putting things together.I just plan to drive my car on the street and do some burnouts.no drag racing.I here some different opinions on the quality of parts they use.but for a mild street motor it should work good don't ya think?
Anyone got an opinion on these short blocks?experiances?
you guys are the greatest ;)

from what ive read mopars small block crate motors always make less power then they claim. and if you get a discount couldnt you just buy the stroker crank with that discount and take it to a reputable shop and have them build you the engine EXACTLY the way you want it. plus mopar charges 7 grand for the 402 without a carb, ill bet if you could that engine build with a carb and edelbrock heads for 7 grand. but there is a BIG difference between a reputable shop and an average shop, the trick is finding the reputable one.

$7,000 -WTF. Yeah have a shop build one for you.  ATI trans now sells motors, they rebuild them and break them in, all you have to do is install and drive away. They sell street engines with a 12 month warranty and race engine with a 60 day warranty. A 408 sb chrysler street with 10-1 comp.  with 450 hp goes for $4996 and the race with 11-1 comp. with 525 hp sells for $6996 the 360 are much cheaper but weaker of course.

The 408 race motor has eddy heads and forged pistons and solid cam.

$7000?

Is that for a 360 block and a $400 cast stroker crank?

I had a stroker 402 built out of my 318.
There is a thread on the whole expierence.

build one
the crate 360 my customer ordered  is going back...... 6+ major problems with it

deathcharger71

ide be pissed if i had to pull an engine and ship it all the way back. the engine i ordered for my boat leeks really bad at the timing cover, so i have to pull the engine and probabely pull the timing cover and oil pan. company that built it doesnt have to worry about it anymore. local shops know theylle have to deal with their mistakes so thats incentive to do it right.

By all means, build one. The parts are available and I'm sure you can find a good machine shop/engine builder around you. Our dealings with the Mopar crates ( all of them ) have been poor to say the least. 4 of them were Hemis and those guys spent big bucks for trash, good luck.

the one i'm refering to is not a complete motor just the machined block, crank, rods, pistons, bearings ,rings all assembled.I can pick it up at the dealer for 2200$.
I then would have to decide on cam, heads and all the other pieces.
do you think they could screw up the basic rotating assembly that bad ::)
there is definatly no way i would pay 7000$ for the complete one, when you could get a nice BB from somewhere else.I was just comparing the price i found on the short block to the catalog prices for a rotating kit and then the prices of having my block machined and the time involved.I'll have to make some more calls.Hughe's is supposed to get back with me.like to see what they have to say.

.

Yup , the crate that is going back was just the short block & it was BAD

I can build you one if you want

oh man i guess that shoots that idea.I definatly don't want to buy a piece of crap just to have to work on it

Chryco ,where are you at and what do you think i might be lookn at price wise to do something like this?

tecmopar

Thats exactly the problem with them is the bottom end, I think the only tools they use are a wooden ruler and an adjustable wrench and they build them on the beach somewhere and only on windy days. Not kidding on that one, 2 of the motors had Sand in them, good luck.

Beer

Take the price list of my build and change the crank to cast, change the pistons to what you like, and change the rods to regular rods. select your heads. Delete the windage tray and you should have a really good estimate of what a cast version one will run you.

Alot of info/pictures on the thread, but worth the wait to load up if your looking to do a SB stroker.
