heater box restoration

My heater box seems to have an unfinished, brownish, finish.Im almost sure it has to be faded. Does anyone know what the original color suppose to be?Thanks!

What year ?
most were dark grey - black but were a kind of fiberglass construction so the appearance could be grainy
