Does anyone keep their Charger outside under a cover? Or does everyone have a garage? I did the measurements for my garage and a Charger won't fit so I may have to keep it outside under a cover

Silver R/T

I had to keep mine outside for few years, now it sits in garage. I had tarp on it but it disintegrated

Mine sat outside for 3 years until I finally managed to garagae mine. I just went to Kmart and bought a generic car cover but I don't recommend that because it didn't last long before the weather tore it up. And besides, dirt and dust still got up under the cover.

Is this a finished car that you're talking about or an ongoing project?

For a finished car, see if one of the car capsules will fit into your budget. http://www.carcapsule.com/ They have indoor and outdoor versions.
It'll take some electricity to keep it inflated, too... It's a neat idea but might only be "right" for certain situations - i.e. power, location, bitchy neighbours, etc..

At the very least a good quality car cover. I don't have one yet so I'll let others chime in on what might be best. The biggest concern I am aware of with car covers is that when exposed to the weather, the worst thing is wind. It moves the cover around and that makes it rub against your paint. That can be bad.

What about a temporary garage - like the patio cover type deals but with walls? They seem to be a good solution. The biggest challenge after the cost would be neighbours and the city by-laws, I think. It all depends on where you've got room to put it up.

I like the temporary garage idea for an ongoing project. It would be a lot easier to get to the car to work on it - compared to the capsule.

Well, there's some ideas. it really depends on what works best for you. If you go the cover route, I'd think go with the very best you can afford.

Cheers for the replies guys, let me explain a bit more, I'm from England so our garages are much smaller over here, I did the measurements for my current garage and a Charger won't fit, the garage is about 5 inches too small lenght wise, there are places here that rent out lock up garages but they are too small as well, the garage I have at the moment is a shared garage so I don't have any right to start building an extension to it, the car would be a good condition one so that's why i'm a bit unsure whether to leave it outside under a cover, you Americans are so lucky with these huge garages you have, perhaps I will move there : )

Here are a couple of threads that show off some members' garages.  Not everyone in NA has excess garage space.  Can you move to the country and purchase a house with a decent garage?   :shruggy:

a house with a decent garage over here usually means a big house, which with prices as they are now means megabucks
I went for something with a big garden and am currently applying for planning permission to put up a 20'x40' (fingers crossed)
both chargers are currently in a building about 10 miles away so it can be awkward

er.. sorry to have to be the one to break this to you but she's a goner...

Jon what kind of place do you store yours in when you say a building down the road? There's those storage places near me in London but they charge about 350 quid per month, which is money I don't want to give them

Jon Smith

its one we built ourselves on my parents land

73 Charger 440

Back in Florida my Charger was too long to fit in the garage (2 car garage), it might have fit if I would have gotten it sideways in there but I kept it outside, mostly under a cover... alot of rust issues that Im fixing now are due to it being outside (without a hood, etc...).

The place we have no here (in Finland) has a good size garage (should easily fit 10 cars in there) so it helps alot when working on the Charger. If I would have had a garage this whole time for the Charger Im sure progress would be somewhat farther on it.

Come on over, always room for another Mopar lover! I think that was one of the reasons our revolutionary patriot forefathers fought your redcoats, the freedom to have an excessively spacious garage for our toys. God bless America. I love our country.... :patriot:
