Engine holds back @ 4000rpm

Hi guys,haven't been around for a while,anyhow,as some of you know,I have a freshly built 440,electronic ign,750 Holly sec vac.Problem is,when I get to 4000rpm,about 100 mph,the engine tends to hold back,fuel issue?I have 3/8 fuel line,new gas tank,new sender/sock & a new mechnical pump.WHATS THE PROBLEM.Thanks in advance.Adam 68.

whats your air cleaner like?. is it a drop base?  sometimes  if the dair cleaner lid is to close to the choke horn it will layday like that, also is your secondaies opening?.   might also be a valvespring issue

 :iagree: Other things to look at are fuel pressure and float levels in the carb. Check the throttle linkage to make sure that it's adjusted properly. The blades should be all the way open when the pedal is on the floor.

Will it rev past 4000 in 1st gear ?

Maybe it's in the wrong gear?  When my throttle/kickdown linkages weren't adjusted properly the car would seem "stuck" at certain speeds.  I would guess the linkages if the motor revs past 4K in neutral...
