The stainless steel piece that's at the BOTTOM of the rear side windows (outside) on a '68.
(Not the round curved one at the corner, the one that's roughly 16" long.)
Strangely, the svc manual doesn't show that one piece, for that matter, most of the sketches
resemble a 1st gen rather than a 2nd.
TIA

Okay, I think I answered my own question and the answer is, "ya gotta be effin kidding me."

Pryed up the felt trim and you see 2 phillips head screws on the inside of the piece.  Which means you need to remove the glass to get to them (You MIGHT be able to undo the back one w/ an offset screwdriver).  Removing the glass entails removing the inner door panel, which of course means removing the rear seat  :icon_smile_sad:  :icon_smile_angry:

You don't have to remove the window to get at the trim screws. You need to remove the window stop that is bolted to the bottom of the track assembly. You will have to remove the back seat, armrests, window cranks, and door panels to get at the bolts. After removing the window stop, you will be able to roll the window down far enough to get at the trim screws. Be careful rolling the window down; the plastic track rollers may bind a little and can easily break. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

You can get the upper quarter molding off without taking the glass out.   It is indeed retained by 3 or 4 phillips screws.  You have to take the window fuzzie off to gain access to them.
Gently pry back the glass & get a screw driver in there.
Yes you have to take off the upper door panel to get at it (which entails removing the back seat as well......)

After you get the screws out you have to gently work it up and "unhook" the rear section from the roof rail.

Use a lot of masking tape on the paint to prevent accidential scratches (which WILL occurr)

Maybe these reference photos will help.
