I just ordered a Mopar electric ignition converter, and I totally forgot to buy new spark plugs and wires. Could anyone give me some advice on which ones I should get. It's a 318.

Gosh allmost 12 hours and nobody can help you out yet ? Well heres what I think-that Mopar electric spark unit might have been alright 30 years ago when the gas burn easier. Gas today is made for fuel injector cars that spray a fine mist of gas right in to the cyc. If your car has a carb. it could use something better, like a MSD box, the 6 series is ok the 7 series is better yet, Sure your car will run ok with the mopar unit but it run, idle and start better with a MSD unit.

For spark plugs and wires, I use Accel plugs non-resistor but lots of people here like champions . For wires I like MSD super conductors but some think they are too thick, I think any name brand wire that cost at least $50.00 should be fine Morros, Accel-not super stock - the 300's and many others. Get the wires you think look cool.

For anybody who thinks the MSD is too much or not needed -Look at today cars, there is one coil firing 1 or 2 cyc. If you have only one coil firing 8 cyc. it better be a very good coil and a very good box, not something that was enginered over 30 years ago.

Thanks for the help, I tried to use the search feature but I never found that thread. I bought the MSD super conductors. I went with the Mopar performance unit because Chryco told me once that you would get the same amount of power out of it and it was cheaper then MSD's. We will see how it goes.

Thanks for your help!

I never said that MSD stuff is cheap-I think its over priced. You should be happy with it, the only way you would notice the difference is to run the MSD unit for a few days, not sure if you would notice the difference with the 6 series but you would with the 7al . With more of the gas having ethanol in it I am very happy I got mine. At first I wonder if I was just trowing money away but I am very happy I spent $500 on a box and coil. If you are going to get the 6al you might as well move up to the 7al, Now MSD has raised the price even more, but some old units are still out there.

I really like my Mallory CD digital ignition box. Car wouldn't start worth crap for years until I added it. now it starts right up and idles immediately - no more spraying carb cleaner and holding my foot on it while it warms up - that saves gas right there  :icon_smile_wink:
