Talking to my uncle (who owns a silver '69 GTX) he told me about a friend he had way back when named Terry.

Terry bought a brand new '69 Charger R/T at the downtown Dodge dealership in Spokane, WA. It was silver with a 440 column automatic, and 4:11 or 4:10 sure grip. Red interior with leather front bucket seats and the center cushion. It also had a red R/T stripe and a red vinyl top. My uncle rode around hundreds of miles in this car and says he saw the car this way a week after Terry bought it brand new.

But I don't think the red vinyl top was an option. What do you guys think?

Same person emailed me I believe with the same story.   There was no factory offered red vinyl top.  Now a dealer installed "custom" job????   Maybe......

I saw a maroon but never a red one. But back then, well they would about make you anything that was order. Like a 66 Hemi Wagon?

and I have seen three red interiors here in Venezuela, one completely red including dash pad etc..., and two with red/black interior ( plastics, molds and dash in black, rest in red ) One of them from a buddy's mine, and the other one parted out ( panels I have )

Sorry, no intentions on highjack the thread LOL...

I've seen a maroon top on a white GTX before (don't know if it was factory or not)and it looked sharp.
A red top might be too much.  It would look awful when it started to fade.  Kind of like tomato soup.

I saw a 1969 Satellite or GTX in a Maine junkyard that was white with an almost brick red toned vinyl top that was cracked and peeling off.

MoparYoungGun

I haven't seen one on a Charger but have seen a few on various 2nd generation B-Body Mopars.

So as a secondary question, if it wasn't available on Chargers, was it available on the other lines?  Specifically Plymouth since that seems to be where we have seen it.

i belive i seen burgandy V. Tops on mid '80s Miradas... it was some sorta special color option as i recall. but never on older 2nd gens. have seen pale greens though, and of course mine was optioned tan.

I have looked through every picture that I have... and know of on line..... and come up empty on a "RED" Vinyl top......on "any" mopar!

The mystery continues!    :shruggy: :scope: :popcrn:

It might have been a maroon top. To me, maroon is a shade of red.

First I've heard of this!
I'd say dealer installed also!
Does your father's buddy still have the history to chase back to dealership?

Huh?

The dealership is gone, and the owner of the car died accidentally in the early '70's. Not sure where the car went.

I don't see maroon listed for any Dodge or Plymouth B-bodies from 68 to 70 in my limited resources so maybe they are all dealer installs.
