HOW MUCH WOULD THE FRAME TO 1969 CHARGER R/T RUN AND WHERE WOULD A GOOD PLACE BE TO GET ONE

Hemidoug

Which frame are you talking about?

They certainly appear to be unibody in design - at least my 68 was.

Mike DC

There is no separate frame.

These things are all unibodies, like an early Mustang or Camaro.

The only thing like a separate frame on a Charger is the "K-frame" which is basically just a large crossmember under the engine compartment that also mounts the lower two suspension arms.

That, and the unibody's several large subframe rails that are welded onto the underside on the assembly line.  But none of those even run the whole length of the car, much less come off.

Hemidoug

No doubt he is talking about a sub frame...but which one?????

Which of course they are so if you want a frame for one it isn't quite that simple.  The unibody for an RT is no different than for other Chargers so if you are just trying to do rust repair, you can use rust free sections from any 68-70 B-body Dodge two door.  Auto Rust Technicians sell sections that can help as well.

If you're trying to repair a Charger body that's absolutely rusted to sh*t, then don't try to piece together a collection of every loadbearing thing one at a time.

If you're not gonna just spend the money for a better car (which is virtually ALWAYS the best plan), your best option is to find a '66-70 b-body Mopar donor car of some sort.  Even 4drs will work for this.  Just swap the rear subframe rails section as a one-piece unit (basically starting from the back seat area, up over the axle, and out to the rear bumper).

Maybe you all scared him off. Probably he was thinking it was like a GM?  :-\

And soon you can go to your local Chevy dealer and they'll probably have it in stock at a great price. :smilielol:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

The frame is consists of 5 major pieces.. You have the two rear rails, 2 front rails and cross member rail that connects the two fronts together. You have a rear crossmember too that rarely rusts out. You also have two rear spring hanger frame pieces that are available aftermarket. The rest you will have to get from a parts car. They also have frame patches but are not really recommended.

im basicaly lookin for the body without pannels, doors, interior, engine you know just the basic like what this guy has http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,49667.0.html how much would it cost and leave any links of places in central texas that sell it

The70RT

The only problem with that is no one is gonna strip a car and chop it up for the rails if it has rust free frame rails. Of course unless you find one totaled. Good luck.

Oh okay, so you aren't looking to do frame repair, you want to do a rebody?

Chad L. Magee

I may be wrong (correct me if I am) but it appears that he either wants a stripped body shell or just the front clip of one based upon his posts.  The second choice is just expensive, the first one will be very hard to find (very expensive when it is found).....

You and everyone else in the Mopar hobby is looking for a cheap local deal on that.

It's easy to find a complete car that's rusted to oblivion.  It's even easier to find a bare shell that's rusted to oblivion.  The bare shell that's solid & ready to build is what's getting rare.

For one thing, don't limit your search to Texas.  You'd better at least be willing to travel a state or two to get this.
