Hi, I've got a 68 383 that was originally a two barrel.  I replaced it with a factory four barrel intake with a edelbrock 650 cfm carb.   I've also got a set of 906 heads that i've ported via the mopar performance template, and am running an electric distributor with an accel super coil.  I've also got 1 3/4 headers on it.  -My first question is....from what i understand the two barrel 68 383 was lower compresion that the four barrel --how much will i have to shave the heads to bump the compression up to 10.5-1.  (forgot to mention is the original pistons still).  Also, the rear is 2.7.1's which i know will suck the big one as far as quarter mile action.  -what would the engle k56 act like with this set up??  If i need to replace the rear gears, can anyone suggest a good ratio for a street daily driver??  Thanks alot guys.

Gears 3.23 -3.55 depending on how tall your tires are and how long and fast you like to drive on the freeway. If you drive 75-80 mph everyday for more than 10-15 mins get the 3.23 if you not on the freeway to often or drive 65 mph get the 3.55. The more gear the quicker it  be on the 1/4 mile so it matters. I have 3.91's but am on the freeway for only 10 mins 1 or 2 times a week, I love them, yes the engine sometimes revs alot but so what, I have  great valve springs and spark box and it keeps going and going and well until I need more gas. Wasn't too bad till these last 2 years but I think I am still doing better than the guy who paid $30,000 for his car that gets 30 miles to the gallon and I am the one out in front too.

you cannot shave the heads enough to get near 10:1 compression , your best bet would have been to use closed chamber 516/915 heads , too late though
use the steel shim gaskets & the K56 Engle , the short overlap on the Engle will build compression over most cams & you will have lots of power , if you are using the stock iron manifolds get the cam ground on 112 CL , go 110 with headers

73, do you mean either 346 or 452 heads?  They all have the same bolt patter...516, 906, 346, 452.  Just plenum config and the closed-head vs. open head config (well, the factory hardened seats of the 452's).

I think the early golden lion heads had a different rocker setup that the later heads. I doubt they offer much performance wise and wouldn't use them if they did work.
