There's "nostalgia funny car racing" and then there are real, period correct funny cars. This 1971 Charger funny car is for sale at a dealer's place in Texas and while we're woefully short on information about the history and origins of the car, we're in love with that we can see. From the gold anodized Cragar SST wheels to the Cragar brand roomies that come with it, this car was pretty awesome at one point.

We're not sure who built the car but the finish was excellent for the day and we're guessing that it's not the original paint on the body and frankly we don't think that is the original body either. Why? The chassis looks a little early for the 1971 body and the fact that the shell sits really high on the car means that this thing was probably "updated" at one point with the fresh Dodge threads over the tubing. We're not taking anything away from the car, just making observations.

One other tell is that the awesomely painted cowl does not have a scheme that matches the rest of the color layout on the car so that also suggests that at some point it at least got paint if not a new look altogether.

Modern nostalgia funny car racing is cool because of the performances coming out of the small supercharger, small fuel pump engines. Old school funny cars like this are cooler in that they actually lived that life and have all kinds of stories to tell.

Anyone out there got the history on this car?
