Anyone have any "trick" to putting pushrods/rocker in with the motor in the car?

Hey all, I just spent about 30 minutes just trying to get the pushrods in and the rockers on my 383 that is already installed in the car. I could just not see the top of the lifters for the last two rods for number 8 to sit the ends of the new rods into. I also had a hard time keeping the rockers in the upright position when trying to put on the rocker arms. Does anyone recommend tying them up when you are trying to install them?

This was so much easier when the motor was on the stand. Any hints would be helpful and greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!

take your dipstick and run it between your springs and tour rods and then put your rocker arms on that should hold the push rods up  then you position the rockers arms all fase down and roll them as you but the bar into place it is kind of hard to explain if not shown

I get a wire coat hanger or welding rod and lay it over the stands for the rocker arm shafts and then lay the pushrods in - this keeps them from falling...   align them half ass and then install the shaft and rockers....

worst pic but u get the idea...     green is a rod of some kind..    yellow are pushrods

Hey thanks guys. Anything will work better than my attempts. Must have been too late in the day to be doing motor work...

Hey Rolling Thunder, this worked PERFECTLY! I got the rods and rocker arm in in no time. I used a welding stick (2 of them).

Thanks for the hint...
