Spark Plug Gap with MSD Ignition Coil:

Hi all,

When using the MSD Blaster 2 ignition coil, is there a preferred gap setting on the Spark plugs? Previously, I've always set my plugs at .035 but with that coil - is there an ideal setting (say, .045)? I run the NGK5's.

And lastly, I have one of those electronic ignition distributor kits. I would imagine that's it's ideal to also run the ballast resistor too, correct?

Thanks for any and all replies...

Stock is .035".    I open mine to .045. Maybe a slight  idle improvement :shruggy:  If your wires , cap and ignition box are up to the slight increase in secondary voltage to fire the plug it might help. If your ignition can't handle it you have a weak  ignition.  When GM went to the High energy Ignition (1975) they opened the gaps to about .060" to help ignite  less than optimal air/fuel ratios and reduce miss fires that played havoc with converters.
