Hey fellas, what is the quickest and easiest way to rechrome the dash gauges?
Saw another member have good luck with a silver painted pen and just went around them with that.
Anyone else done this?
Cheers.

I think for the cost of the pen, it did a pretty good job!  I have used it with satisfactory results . . .
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

I already did the pen trick, nice for a driver and better than nothing, but If I had the chance for a rechroming job and could pay it, sure would preffer that

Pens ( or markers ) are more silver than really Chromed finish

I had mine done at the vacume place...not cheap but looks like new!

In my car, the pen worked well enough but the gauge faces are fading now. Who fixes that one?

The Molotow ones are better than silver markers but not quite vacuum-deposited chrome plastic. I used the markers and am happy with how it turned out compared to $500 worth of repops.  The marker finish is not very durable without a topcoat, which is tricky business with chrome paint, but easy to touch up with the pen.

Here's a pic of the marker and repop radio bezel I bought (my car didn't have one) side by side.  I'm sure you can tell which is which, but under the shade of the dash pad it is not easy to tell the difference.

The Molotow chrome pens are the best/closest your going to get to real vacuumized "chrome".....here's a dash fascia my Daughter just finished with a Molotow chrome pen

lloyd3,

I got my Charger gauge faces from Dave Patik/PCG, they're available in decal sheet form, the originals faces are silk screened/printed, if you go the decal method, be sure to paint the entire instrument gauge face in a satin black before applying decals for a uniform appearance, the decals are very good quality in fit/finish, I installed my decals dry with zero issues, once installed only you'll know they're decals....

Damn , your daughter did an Awesome Job

Funk nut also , looks great

I have used those pens from Hobby Lobby but I don't remember them looking that nice on my 71 Bee

What's the secret if any

Spring project I guess

lloyd3

Thanks Mike. Yet another project for perhaps this winter/spring? There used to be a service (or two?) that would totally re-do instrument clusters but I suspect that they've gone the way of the dodo bird. Oh well...

I ended up using the chrome pen
Extrmely happy with how it turned out for such a simple fix
