Best carb to put on a stock rebuild
10:1  compression engine??

Depends on where you look. Somewhere between 575 and 625, again, depends on the sources. Good all around size for a 440 would be a 750 cfm in my opinion.

If this keeps up I'm going to go pull my 1969 440 Magnum's 4618 AVS Carb and Flow it on our "state of the art" SuperFlow SF750 .... which I will video for those interested.

Always better to "cheat" the airflow with larger Carb butterflies found in over-carbing calcs used strictly in theory = theory and reality.

Too busy this week John, gotta fix CDI Box on the V6 Merc/Boat then replace Tracks on the mini excavator..... so might be closer into October as Shop is filling up fast for winter builds as well ?

When I do get around to Flowing the 4618 ? If I can't find this thread again I'll make sure to pm you with my results.

I have doubted most quoted CFM numbers for factory carbs ever since I attended a Mopar Performance Clinic in the sixties, the handout literature gave CFM ratings for the small and large AVS carbs....I've since misplaced the literature but the numbers 635 and 685 come to mind. Anxious to see real numbers.

Yeah.... now my interest is pique'd as well as Carbs can vary widely even between same/same ratings ?

Had one guy with too much money ship out 3 X 850's for testing.... which if I remember correctly 2 were Holley's(different List# but both 850's) and one Quick Fuel 850..... all I do remember is how surprised I was to see one Holley down around low 700's, one low 800's, and the QF surpass 900
NOT..... that DRY Flowing a Carb is any valid indication of anything other than airflow in THAT Carb..... just that actual "AirFlow' itself can vary widely between Carbs !
