I have come across a neat old 1968 C body with a complete drive train

Question 1 It has 440 auto and air conditioning - will any of the A/C stuff from under the hood fit a Charger other than what is bolted to the motor ?

Question 2  It has a complete cruise control set up - will this stuff be the right length to fit a Charger and did any of this stuff work well to start with and easy to get working now ?

Question 3  It has power window set up  ( 2 door car) - Is there any difference in the brackets etc to mount the motors in the Charger ?

The car is a couple hours away from me and just trying to decide if it would be worth the trip

The car is a 1968 New Yorker Convertible

I made a list of some of the bits that might be usable

1 Has door mirrors on both doors same as Charger but not sure if the base is at proper angle to be the same
2 Has a full set of key locks and keys
3 Cruise control complete
4 Center console complete with floor shift all wood grain
5 Power window motors and switches
6 Seat belts and looks like the mounting clips they snap into when not in use on front edge of seat
7 Head rest set up on front seats ( not sure if they are the same spacing as on a Charger)
8 Has the neat vacuum gauge on the console
9 440 motor
10 727 transmission
11 Air conditioning pump mounted on motor with all the pulleys to make everything work
12 3 spd windshield wiper motor
13 A/C heater box under the dash the same ??
Lots of other little picking nuts bolts some wires with proper ends , horns .....

I had a 68 Newport that I used parts from for my project 69 charger. I mainly used the 8.75 center, the motor trans. Some misc bolts/ clips and fasteners. Electrical connections/ connectors. Brakes drums and some brake parts. Headlights/ all light bulbs.

#1 - No

#2 - The brackets bolted to the engine are the same. There should be a lost motion link on the carb and a cruise cable  mounting bracket bolted to the throttle cable bracket. There is a cable routing bracket attached the brake booster on a B body, not sure if the same is used on C body car . The  cruise servo itself is the same ( but different mounting bracket ) speedo cables I am pretty sure are different.  the brake pedal mounted vacuum switch and bracket I think is the same . FYI, the cruise control servo is unique to the 68-69 model years . They use a vacuum disconnect switch on the brake pedal ,,,,,, where as the 70 and later use an electrical disconnect switch.

#3 - Only thing the same will be the switches themselves and the motors. regulators and wiring are body specific

How much is the C-body?  The 440 and transmsission will certainly fit but not too much from the rest of your list.

That AC suction line is similar to the 68 B body one over the engine.  Any vintage hose should have the flexible section replaced with barrier hose compatible with modern refrigerants.  The connection to the evaporator at the firewall is different.  It may or may not be able to be adapted if the hose section length is altered.
Mopar forever!

On that note, do you know how do they remove the original crimp from the hose before re-crimping back onto the new hose?

The shine is starting to come off the idea of getting this car

He was asking $2000 but it is not sold yet
Talking with him he drove it to where it is sitting 8 years ago and has not run since and also said he is not much of a car guy
Another conversation with him he says he has been told the floor is rotting out now so someone must have come to see it but passed

I would be interested if I could get it for $1000 and sell off what bits I could
lots of all the little nuts and bolts and screws that always looking for
Think I would do alright then

From the ad

Rare classic car...only 2161 manufactured!! 440 cubic inch engine, 4 barrel carburetor. On the floor shifter with bucket seats. hide-away headlights. A wonderful project car!!!

Just have to wait him out a bit till he gets past the rare car part that no one wants

True. The console and shifter do fit B body cars though. The engine, trans, 3rd member if it is an 8 3/4" axle are about the only things that swap over aside from the various nuts, bolts and clips.
At $1000, the engine and trans had better be in good running condition.

I would be hoping to sell off $500 worth of parts from the car front fenders hood grill bumpers trunk lid convertible roof and only have $500 in what is left

Where else can you get a complete 1968 440 motor and transmission and wood grain console and shifter for $500 and still have all the bits left over ??
Think it is totally worth it at $1000  :yesnod: :yesnod:

Tell him rare does not equal valuable, some cars are rare because no one wanted them then either.  Then offer him 1000 cash.  You might want to go see it first though and make sure on the condition of the drivetrain and other parts.

Dano 1

Lots of partout potential there but I agree, I wouldn't want to be in it for more than $1000-$1500. I paid $1000 for a '71 440/727 pullout last spring, which seems pretty typical for big block prices in my area (NC). Add in the rear end (could be a decent ratio and suregrip) plus misc. body and chassis parts and you should do pretty well assuming you have the space to store it and motivation to pull/sell parts.

If you buy it and don't want that console top plate let me know  ;)

I really liked this post. Any time you can get parts from some other car it is great. I'm working on getting a 69 New Port with a 440 HP. It has hide away head lights. I will be checking if the motor is the same.

djcarguy
