1968 Charger R/T
Where does the 20 inch long braided cable go. (see Picture).
Any other places that you can suggest.

I know that the 12 inch green cable goes from the firewall (near the blower motor) to the engine.
Also the clip ground at the fuel line outlet.

Thank You

tan top

that braided cable is not OEM  , its been added by a previous owner , think its been used for the firewall to passenger side cylinder head ground cable.
see picture below for location !
one end bolts to the top rear of passenger side cylinder head & other to fire wall  , there are two different mounting locations on the fire wall , one as seen in the picture  the other is roughly two / 3 inches lower ...
i've long since forgot why two different locations  &  AC or no  big / small block / years etc  :shruggy:  imo no biggie unless your doing a OEM gold resto ,
if you already have this ground cable fitted ! forget what i've just typed

don't forget as with any ground , make sure its bolted on to clean shiny metal .

Hi tan top
I am the original owner.  Bought it in 1968 off the showroom.
The location you show from firewall to engine is where the 12 inch cable was.
I have photos from before removal.
I am at a loss where I removed the 20 inch braided cable from.
Thank You
John

I agree with Tan Top, that braided ribbon thing is not stock.   You say you don't remember taking it off?   Maybe you didn't but found it in that pile of parts we all seem to collect.

Okay
I know how a good ground is important on these cars.
I will see if I can find a good place to put it.
Thank You
John

Ah i see ! thanks for the picture ! appreciated !
wow your the original owner ! i had know idea ! awesome !!  bet you have some good back in the day  stories !  is that RR1 burgandy  firewall i can see ! love that color on a 68 , would love to see some pictures of your charger sometime.
, its got me thinking now where could / would it have been connected to.
the only other ground wire that is on our chargers with ring terminals at each end thats OEM factory fitted  , is steering column to dash frame , but thats  small gauge  black wire. nothing like the braided one in your picture....... there is nothing like that braided ground wire on a 69 , as i stripped mine down to the very last nut  bolt clip screw when i done the nut & bolt resto ! so dare say there is nothing like that on any second generation charger from the factory.
can never have enough good grounds though as we all know the whole body is ground , but when i converted mine to the later 70 style voltage regulator & electronic ignition , i ran dedicated ground wires to both as a just to make sure type thing & to the  gauge cluster & front turn signals too , fuel sender & other things over kill yes ! but any problems arise in the future its not a ground issue  :P, also  used the 70 & later negative battery cable with the extra ground to attach to the body .

Just went out and took a picture for you.
What appears as marks on the side are just reflections.
Current state of assembly.
Grill, bumper, hood and other items are on a long list to be installed.
I am dealing with many medium things that I still don't know or understand.
