What's a bare block 426 Hemi and one set of heads worth?

So what is a block with no pistons cranks or anything and heads for one side worth?

It all depends on the condition of the block. I saw a cracked KB Hemi block go for a couple grand on TVĀ  ::)

What's the vintage of the block?

The earlier ('66) blocks were a little more prone to cracking, but are still pretty valuable.  Mid/Late '68 through early '70 blocks bring the highest $$ from what I've seen.  If it's a MP or KB block, totally different story.

A Hemi block & heads ain't worth nothin'.  Have them hauled away for scrap and don't clutter up your garage.

I'll be there to pick them up in an hour.

If the block is in descent condition and the heads aren't compromised but just need to be redone How much would it cost if I were to rebuild it myself (guessing thousands and thousands)?

You really have to be careful buying used Hemi blocks, and heads. The guy on Wrecks to Riches got burned on one when they were building their fake GTX. The block he bought had a 6 inch hairline crack in the cam galley.

Brand new ones are available from Mopar performance. I would not buy used ones unless it was the matching numbers motor to my Hemicar. If you do buy them, have them checked by a competent machine shop before any money is exchanged. Make sure the magnaflux them to check for internal cracks.

A lot of the used Hemi engines, and parts were raced hard, blown up,and patched back together several times during the twenty year absence of brand new factory Hemi parts. There is no reason not to buy brand new parts, now that they are available. The cost of having to repair used damaged parts, can cost more than buying new ones. I reciently saw an ad for new Hemi blocks for $1995.00. Keep that price in mind,if you buy the used parts. I agree with moparfied,do not pay any money until the parts have been checked by a machine shop!

Yeah..don't forget that Chrysler wouldn't even give a decent warranty on them when they were new, cos they knew they were going to get hammered...these engines..while HUGELY desirable are very tricky temperamental and most have led a hard life..
