Shifter cable issues

Hey guys,
I have shifting issues getting out of park into gear when the car is hot. I believe that the shifter cable is the cause since it is running right next to the starter and the exhaust. I am using a B&M Prostick shifter with stock manifolds. I have slipped a heat resistant sleeve over the cable as I melting my old cable against the exhaust pipe. I also fabricated a bracket to keep the cable centered between the starter and exhaust pipe. My question is what else can I do to keep the heat away from the cable? Is there a heat shield available for the starter that I should be using? I have a stock starter. Should I wrap the exhaust pipes with header wrap? The shifter feel spongy when this occurs as if the cable was busted but goes away after some cool down time.

Thanks,
Chris

I had all the same problems with my B&M Mega shifter years ago.  I finally got tired of burning up cables no matter what I tried.  I changed to a Turbo Action Cheeta shifter.  The TA shifter feeds from the rear and is nowhere near exhaust or header pipes.  No problems at all in over 15 years.......

I have a Winters Performance shifter installed around 1979 in the console box with a rear exit cable. Looks like a twin to the Turbo Action style.  :scratchchin:

Here's the only product I have had success with, Heatshield Armor. https://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Shop-by-Brand/Heatshield-Shields-and-Jackets/Heatshield-Armor-trade

Easy to use, by partially wrapping the starter and then the entire cable near the headers.  Use stainless ties too: https://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Shop-by-Brand/Heatshield-Tape-and-Fasteners/Heatshield-Thermal-Ties

TTI recommends NOT wrapping the headers.

Thanks guys,
I imagine wrapping the starter is to protect it from radiant heat as I don't think that is what is causing the heat issue right? I like the idea of the insulated wrap. I am also looking at the insulated sleeving to wrap the shifter cable itself as well.
Thanks for the feedback
