You can still use a bank check or cashiers check. But wire transfers are pretty much the standard when sending money between countries. Heck, most of the rest of the world uses electronic transfer for nearly everything.

Yeap, that's another option... Money Gram, Western Union. I just sent a friend of mine US$35.5 to Colombia from Spain with WU... got charged around $5.5. Can't tell what's the base used for the fees
