Hi
Im Joost, im from the Netherlands and would like to find out some more of my charger.
I have my charger now for about 5 years.
I bought it in topeka kansas 2013 and im wondering if someone nows this car. Its a R/T but has no fendertag or buildsheet found.
It has a 440 crate engine with a 5 speed tremec.
I have a 440 and a 4 speed with the car wich former owners claims they are matching#
Vin: XS29L8G244...
Pics are from when i bought it in Topeka 2013
Thanks !

If you want to know if the e ngine and trans are original, the trans has a machined pad on the passenger side that should have the VIN number on ist.  The engine should have the VIN number stamped on the area on top where the transmission bell housing and engine meet (there is not a pad just stamped into the casting)near oil pressure sending unit but more toward driver side.
see it here

Is that also at the 68 chargers?
i thought motor and trans # can be different on a 68..  so that you must have the buildsheet and fendertag to see if they match.

But what im looking for is to getting to know some more of the history,

Thanks!

I went to college in Topeka and remember looking at an unrestored 68 with the same color combo back in the mid 90s.  It was pulled out of a field and was sunk into the ground.  You need to PM a member named wingman.  His real name is JR.  He lives and has lived in Topeka for a long time. He should have some info on your charger.  Good luck.

photon

He is just wingman when you do a search. There are a few others with wingman in there ID.

For a 1968 Engine & Trans & Dash would be the same VIN Number.  Radiator support and rear trunk rail numbers match the fender tag vehicle order number(VON).  You need a build to connect the VIN to the VON

Troy

The numbers on the engine and transmission should match the VIN on the car so start there. If they match each other but not the car then you can stop. You'd need the fender tag or build sheet to see if the body itself matches the VIN.

My favorite color combination by the way!

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

gasoline_24

The numbers on the block on a 68 will be on the upper rear portion of the engine and in the same location on the transmission.  I believe they should be on the drivers side if my memory is correct.

Thanks for the info :2thumbs:
I gonna send wingman a message and hope he nows more.

Gonna check the numbers also.
I bought it because i also liked the combo of these collors and because it has the 5 speed and 440 crate. Its a driver paint is not perfect but i like it how it is and its turn key so just drive.

kokxville

I know that car also. It's a blast to drive and it's really fast. I'm always jealous when he shifts to 5th gear with that tremec transmission. That is in my opinion one of the best improvements  :2thumbs:

fc7_plumcrazy

didn't you buy it from FBBO?

Doesn't the old seller know anymnore history?

Carsten

Joostdodge

Hey John, yes the 5 speed is great makes it fun to drive long distance.

I bought it of fbbo indeed.
I sended him some emails but the former owner dont answer it.
Have no more info of him anymore.
So would hope to find some storys about the car in the past and maybe old pics but think its a longshot..
But hey if you dont try you never know.

socalcharger

What difference does the history make at this point? Car is on the other side of the world now never to see US soil again unfortunately.

Joostdodge

If you love chargers just be glad people take good care of them and young people keeps the mopars alive here.. no matter wich part of the world it is in it.. think you also dont see 80 % of the chargers wich are stil in the states.
Also you can ship them back if you see one you like for sale in europe.. cost 1200 usd and a little inland transport..add another 500 for a planeticket not that big of a deal..
