This is my only hesitation in installing fuel injection, supposedly it really cleans up the lumpy cam idle, which is probably one of my favorite things about my car.........  :shruggy:

Cam grind dictates idle characteristics. Not source of injection be it carb or electronic.

I'm hoping you're right. All I have to go by is an article I read on how fuel injection somehow compensates and smoothes out the standing waves inside the intake...... or something like that??.

Here's hoping it doesn't.

Friend of mine put a Fitech on his 69 Nova with a 454.  Another buddy swears his sounds different.  I don't recall enough to comment about his setup.

My Charger sounds just a little different, I suppose.  But depending on the "tune" or "out of tune" of the carb that was on a particular car before, sure.  It could make a difference.  After all, you could be changing the air/fuel ratio a fair amount and that will make the little explosions in the cylinder act different.  No different than plucking a guitar string differently.  Same "pitch" but different timbre.

The only way i could see the idle changing going from a carb to throttle body injection such as holley or fi tech, is if the carb wa soooo messed up that your idle was loaded up. Otherwise, its not going to change. A carb is a mechanical fuel leak. A throttle body injection is an electric fuel leak. Period.

You right Joe, I did notice a slightly different idle when I had the fi-tech on my car but it still had a good lope to it. The holley carb does have a little better sound to me at idle but there is not a day and night difference. More than likely the throttle body was leaner at idle so it did sound slightly different and the carb is going to run richer at idle with a healthy cam.

Multiport injection with mass air meter- f cam is similar specs to the mp509 cam

My old 383 with a custom cam similar to the mp509
https://youtu.be/9gpncCxfZ44

Granted 1 is a 302 and the other a 383 with different bores and strokes. And 1 is hydraulic flat tappet and the other is roller, the overlap characteristics are similar enough to show that fuel injection will not make it have a smooth idle.

That's encouraging for sure. I'm also curious how low the EFI will let me set the idle......  :scratchchin:
