71 Charger Inner fender repair

On my 71 the only cancer on the inner fenders is the typical rust out around the front hood hinge mount nut on each side.  The actual nut/steel plate looks to be reusable, but the sheet metal is rusted.  It looks like I could cut out the rust and weld a flat piece of 16 gauge steel in there and fix it, but there appear to be two small humps to the front and rear of this hole.  Does anybody know if these are just a deformation caused by the rust in combination with the weight of the hood,  are they actually original contours, or can I get by without them?  They are small enough that I could probably even figure a way to stamp the humps if need be.  Just makes sense to me to go with a $10 piece of sheetmetal rather than $160 worth of patch panels, 75% of which I don't even need to use.

Do you have a picture? I am faced with the same issue. Though I think rust has crept into the plate on the other side for me -- sadly..the rest of the well is mint, just affected underneath the hinge.

Those "Dimples' in the metal may just be targets for drilling when it was made.

If you look at the photo of the patch panels on yearone.com the area looks to be flat around that hole.  Now those are supposedly not as detailed as the entire replacement inner fenders, but I think I could get by ok with a flat piece of steel to replace the rotted area.  That is of course providing the surface rust in the surrounding area cleans up as nicely as it looks like it will.  I've attached the requested picture.
