Dipstick Tube

Is there a difference in dipstick tubes beside the mounting bracket between a small block vs big block tranny (727)?

Meaning, if I am using a small block tranny dipstick on my big block tranny, will it read less fluid than actually what is needed?

There is nothing wrong with my transmission, but I don't think the line pressure is sufficient for what I should be putting down to the ground on my 440.  The car wont spin the tires.  Running 440, 30 over, 10.1 compression, stock heads, single plane edlebrock intake, 3.55 sure grip, tires are 285/35/20's.

With my combination, I would think it would roast the tires.

I don't know the exact answer to your question, other than there are different part numbers for all the various tubes.

As far as your 440 goes, what is your initial and total timing?

I would have to go back and look at my paperwork.

How are you doing that if the brackets are way different?

The dipstick is the same for both the 904 and 727 (in the same body) and the tube is the same length so the FULL mark is in the same place for both.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I moved the bracket so we could fill up the tranny. Intent was to get the correct tube down the road.

Without the correct bracket you have no idea the depth of the tube in the case and the dipstick reading might be wrong. The only exception would be the early tube with a lower mounting bracket.

This is what I am assuming is the case, and although the transmission is running fine the line pressure is low enough to cause a lack in performance.  Now I need to find the correct tube.  I remember seeing aftermarket tubes with a locking feature on top.  I think it was Mancini who had one.
