Hey guys, i was looking into a new oil pan for my 440 and someone mentioned "windage trays". So after a little research, all i came up with are the separate insallation ones and the built-in ones from Milodon (and i'm not fond of making a gasket sandwich out of my oil pan), but the built in are all deep pans. What are your opinions on the trays? Know of any other manufacturer that makes them? ... I should also mention i'm using the factory crossmember and i don't want a deep pan.

So it takes the place of the gasket and adds a windage tray at the same time?

Sure beats trying to silicone in the windage tray, then silicone in the oil pan. Might have go this route next time my pan is off. Thanks for that!

It has probably been done 1,000,000 times.  The factory did it, and virtually every hot rodder for the past 45 years

500" NA, Eddy head, pump gas, exhaust manifold with 2 1/2 exhaust with tailpipes
4150 lbs with driver, 3.23 gear, stock converter

Those Summit ones are nice, they fit well and are easy to use.

But if the above is not available ?
Absolutely NOTHING wrong with 2 gaskets and the factory sheet metal windage trays.

Yep, two gaskets and a windage tray is how mine is done and it works fine. It's not that hard to do, I just had the pan off of mine a few months back and the only thing bad about it is when you pull it back apart there is alot of cleaning to get the gaskets and the ultra grey silicone I use off of the pan and the tray. I have installed the 6 pack pans and pick up tubes and windage trays with the engine still in the car also and it's not a bad job either.

Pre tack both gaskets to the windage tray works for me. I bought one of those fancy ones but haven't tried it yet. Nothing wrong with the 50 year old design.

I'm using a Milodon Windage Tray with the stock 6 quart Hemi Pan. I need to do an oil pan gasket this winter. How hard is it to do with the motor still in?

It's not bad really, jack up and put stands under the front and you will want to knock the center link loose at the tie rod and pitman arm and then you can twist the center link out of the way. You will also want to remove the front wheels for added room so you won't have to work around them. Then the pan is fully exposed so all you have to do take the bolts out and prise it down. Cleaning the block kinda sucks but it can be done with some patients and time and the pan and tray can be cleaned fairly easy while they are off the engine.

It's been a few years since I done one on my buddy's charger but I think we done an oil pan swap in about a half a day.(4 hours or so) and that was taking my sweet time and making sure all was really clean to avoid any problems.
