im finishing up my 72 charger se restoration and wondering about replacing the headlight switch. Below are pictures of a new one and the old original. The rheostat is smaller on the newer one but does that matter at all or will this new switch function the same as the original?

It looks as though you could pull out the thumb wheel off the old switch, clean it up and put it into the new one without too much trouble.

Not all are exactly the same. Diff manufacturers made their own piece, but everyone works the same. Honestly I never have bought one new piece LOL, but used from donor cars and even have being able to build one from parts of several used ones to find the rheostat ( and domelight switch ) assembly SOMETIMES even looking diff will interchange from one housing to the other, and sometimes not. The main difference could be the switch points meeting or not the rheostat track/spring.
