Setting up my 742. New 3.23 gears, new bearings and shims, new Sure-Grip.
Pinion depth shims equal to .093, backlash of .007", preload at 13inLb with new setup bearing and NO seal.

I couldn't load it while turning, but got a bit of a pattern. What do y'all think?

I'm trying to get an old phone to work. The camera on this one does not allow me to focus up close.

The objective is to get a centered football shaped pattern

Hopefully these are a little more clear.

Thanks. Got it all assembled with the new (non-setup) bearings and new seal. Final preload is 19inlb. Got it painted and installed in the freshly powder coated housing.

Maybe someone can help, as my local napa wasn't able to. Yoke on the 742 takes ubolts instead of strap to hold ujoints. Guy at napa says I'm wrong and it doesn't exist. Kept saying all Mopar vehicles use the 318-10 strap kit and none use u bolts.

Pinion has centering tabs with a space of 3.615" between them. Gap for the caps measures 1.055".
Tried Moog 457 ujoint, this fits the DS and yoke width but the caps can't seat and setting the strap on it leaves about 1/4" gap.
As I explained to the guy at napa, the pinion is clearly meant for u bolts as the holes are non threaded for 5/16 bolt to pass through and the back is machined for washers/nuts.

My question is, should I keep hunting for a bastard ujoint setup, or just get a new 7290 (or other size) yoke and have a new DS made to fit a non-conversion ujoint? I would be fine running a conversion ujoint for a while if I can find caps and ubolts that work. My current DS is 1" short from where I'd like it but still perfectly fine for what I need (moving up/down driveway from carport to garage).

Look them up for a ford 9in

Thanks. Will do in the morning. Any chance you know a PN?
As for napa u bolts, I tried SKF UJ329-10, but the C-C is too narrow. I'll check if UJ330-10 is different on the C-C.

Done with NAPA. Guy basically called me an idiot saying that I was wrong and all Dodges used straps and what I said I needed didn't exist. Went to a small auto parts/gun/Uhaul shop, told them what I had. He grabbed a Spicer 3-94-54X and said this is it. Slight tap with a hammer to get it through the paint and I now have a mounted DS.

I noticed U Joint repair stuff in the "HELP" section of Advance Auto. Perhaps check a few places around you.  :scratchchin:

The Detroit 7260 and 7290 yoke uses the straps and they aren't the same, each uses a different strap. The Spicer 1330 yoke uses u-bolts.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks. Got it figured out.
Just waiting on brake hoses for disc brake conversion to arrive and she will be drivable.
