440 fuel filter question

Yesterday I replaced my fuel pump with a Carter M6903 HV unit and removed the pressure regulator that I had in the system because of the higher pressure from the old pump.  At the same time I replaced the filter with a Fram G3583 in line filter.  This filter has a third prong for the 1/4" vapor return line.  I've been running this or a NAPA equivalent for the twenty years that I've had the car now, with no problems.  When I bought the car (originally a 318 car) the previous owner had done everything in the way of R/T upgrades except the fuel lines.  So, I bought the 3/8" sending unit with the 1/4" return from Year One.  Over the years I've heard all the talk about the original vapor separator, but never thought much about it, as I figured the little screen in them would not filter as well as the in line unit I have been using.  When reading about the Fram filter, it refers to the return line as a "Bypass" for excessive fuel.  Nothing is said about vapor return.  I don't have any vapor-lock issues.  Just wondering if there is anything better out there, or should I get one of the original vapor separators?

I took my vapor separator off and put a Fram filter back in there. My Six Pack carbs were full of gunk! To be fair, the little filters in each carb had been removed and I didn't know it. Basically the system was unfiltered. I also added an auxiliary electric pump for priming purposes (the Six Packs boil all the fuel in the bowls when it's shut off) along with a good filter at the tanks so now it's probably overkill.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I have been running just the stock vapor separator for 15+ years with no issues....
