Hi guys!

I'm looking for some idea for a '68 charger shaped bed.Since there are some really great fabricators here I thought I drop this see what comes up.
So our 3,5 year old always sleep with us and wouldn't go to bed without one of us be with him.We thought we are going get him his own bed and what other shaped bed would be better than a '68-69 charger(wife's idea  :icon_smile_big: ).I could get the shape of it cut out by a cnc machine but how do I get the size of it since this have to be like no more than 6x4 foot!
Would build him a little bed with a seat next to it with a gauge cluster and steering wheel.

Any idea would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Peter

mine are 10&12, hold ground, its hard but does pay off....cuddle and read with them every single night, ever night.... but do not let them sleep with you past next Saturday.  I have a best friend and his two sleep in his room until they were like 12-14 which btw significantly impacts the quality perks of being married... ahh hello.   Ohhh... sorry that was not the advise you were looking for... :slap: :hah: :hah:

I could see buying a really cheap or used wooden bed as base, that had solid wood side boards below or on the side of the mattress box frame.  Reality is they will not really want it or will grow out of it by 12 or 15 surely, so 3/4" plywood, routered, sanded and painted with their help.  The get to paint it and choose colors.  Use paper or cardboard for your template and towards your scale.  No one has overhead projectors anymore but if you could source one of those that would help.  I could see free handing or finding a friend with some skills there and "cartooning" the coke bottle.  Or maybe even making the back board a shelf and the toe board area a sloped front nose with cubby holes looking towards a Daytona.  At the end, I could see evening involving the kids, even that young, gains will be had together teaching playing with them time.  I would personally avoid metal as construction material for a variety of wt, sharp edges, level of effort, cost, etc.

Just some ideas.  I thought about it too, but at the end I did not think they would get the number of yrs use for the cost and project hours.  I chose other projects with them...... all the time (son has his own anvil now at 10 and playing with forge, fun to watch them learn).  And they are really not that interested in cars, but that is ok. I hope one of them comes around.....16 and time in the pasture going in circles is not that far away I predict..... or at least by me again... :icon_smile_big:

Seriously, good luck.  If you build it, others here, including myself would like to see photos.
Good Luck... :2thumbs:

Thanks mate!

I figured out what i'm going to do.I was going to do like a 1400mm long scale car but that would be way too difficult so I asked a high-resolution picture from Ridelikehell and getting to make some stickers of his car.The one that his profile picture is going to be the side. The sticker is going to be 1400mmx500mm.I will place the sticker dry on the board and cut the shape of the car out of it.On the front of the bed,I also get a sticker made of his grill. So it looks like a car.Could just buy a cheap bed for him for sure and that would be a lot cheaper but this is going to look awesome, hopefully! The vinyl stickers should be done this week and the boards are getting cut on Monday. Will make a wooden frame for the mattress this weekend and hopefully his new bed will be ready before Xmas.
The thing is I love when he cuddles up with me and I can listen to his little noises at night but he is big enough for his own little place.

Pictures are coming ones I had made some progress.

This is roughly the idea except I will use a vinyl decal and won't be painted like that. Will look like this decal on the side of the bed, like the one you posted!

By the way,I have this decal in our bedroom and this gave the Wife the idea to get the decals made and use that!
They are going to send me the sample of the decals on Saturday and if I like them will print them out on Monday.Tuesday,I will put the whole thing together, hopefully

Finally, the decals are done after almost 2 weeks  :flame: But now I can not CNC cut the shape out due to being Christmas holidays.Everyone is way too busy and they stop working tomorrow. So it will have to be like a simple white box for my son.Anyway, still going to be cool looking with these decals on.

It's done and my son loves it.He just doesn't want to get out of it which makes us happy. It's not really done as I will have to get the shape of the charger cut out but for now it will do!

:2thumbs:  Indeed.  That looks good and not breaking the bank.  Could then recycle the sides into shop wall hangings when he out grows it...    I does really look nice.
