Charger Value: Does anyone know?

I searched but Edmonds and Kelleys Blue Book (websites) do not go past 1980 for values of cars.
my qeustions was that I was wondering how much is a 1968 Hemi Charger (not original) worth compared to a '68 440 Charger (not original). I've had my 68 Charger appraised at $18,000 - but I can't seem to find any quotes on how much non-original Hemi Chargers are worth.

would it be a good investment to buy a Hemi engine and replace the 440? Not sure what the cost would be on the whole operation but if the price value of the vehicle goes up by more than the cost of the operation then it would be a good decision.

MY OFF THE CUFF ESTIMATION IS THAT A HEMI IS WORTH 10-13 k MORE THEN A COMPARABLE 440... 4 SPEEDS ADD ANOTHER 3-5K AND THAT'S MY OPINION ONLY..

triple_green

at least $15K for a crate hemi
at least $20K for a period correct hemi

:iagree:  The hemi will cost $15k by the time you are done.  I'd leave the 440 in it and put the 15k in a mutual fund.

Or you could put a Hemi in it and have some real fun and value. No offense 440 people, their great motors, but a 440 ain't no Hemi.

No offense taken. I know plenty a 440's that will eat Hemi cars for lunch. It didn't take much to get a factory 440-6 up to snuff back in the day. Hemi's are nice, but a 440 can also get the job done.

As far as adding value? I don't know. I guess it could add some. 15K sounds like a decent hike to me. Personally, I'm into the VIN, Fender Tag and mostly original appearing cars. I don't think I would pay more for a 318 Hemi converted car. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this subject, but that's just me.

Well said!

But everyone wants a Hemi now! If you want a Hemi and you can afford it you really can't go wrong!

NADA has classic car values.  I don't know if this helps but here you go.  Just a quick guide to go on IMHO. :icon_smile_big:

Oh I have no doubt that even off showroom floor, stock for stock, 440 would eat a Hemi. Hemis are not for show room stock however, requiring more attention. In addition, their heads have superior flow to that of wedge engines, and most here like to tinker with our cars. If on a budget, I highly recommend 440. However if you can afford a Hemi, why not take it up to the next level?

Hey Mikepmce, great website reference, thanks.   Nice seeing those values.  I feel better.   ^-^

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Hm... I wouldn't have thought so either...

But on the other hand, if you invest the $15k the hemi would cost in a 440

I stand corrected. Stock 440-6 probably wouldn't eat a Hemi. 440 is a great motor however. I just think when you get to a certain level of performance the Hemi turns on where the 440 turns off. That's the point I'm trying to get to. And I just think a Hemi has a certain uniqueness to it that even Chevy people like to look at.
