Whistling carburetor.........

hello again to all,                Was hoping someone might be able to tell me where a whistle might= come from on a holley 4160 i have had on my '74 charger-no vacuum leaks detectable on exterior or around base. carb has been on car a cpl of weeks,running fine.seems to be still-just now with a loud whistle. any advice appreciated, as always.

hey nacho,             thanks for your reply. the carb is about 5 yrs old.  Im going to go out and tinker with it - throttle shaft is a logical place to start. thanks!

Carb whistling is fairly common. Some report that opening the secondaries a little will stop it, others claim that open-plenum base gaskets cause the whistle, change to a 4-hole gasket.

On Youtube do a search using "whistling carburetor".

Thanks for me as well John, mine has done same since I put the latest Holley on back in '89. I'll have to check what gasket I have as I reassemble the 'Bee.

I'll second what John said.  Some of the lesser quality 4 hole gaskets will do this.  Also the throttle plate to main body gasket "going away" will do this.  Also it's a Holley, so check the main body surface at the throttle plate for over-tightened screws, or warped there.

Only does it after it's fully warmed up, right?  BTDT.  My 69 has a factory Holley, 383 built with A/C.

I don't think a 5 YO carb will get really worn there to get a whistly carb.. Pay attention to tne rest of suggestions.
