I was looking at this 72 Charger on eBay, just window shopping. (sorry I don't know how to post the pictures from the ad) The seller describes it as a base model.

The hood, seats, taillights and instrument panel look like a Ralley.

However it has a WH vin which I think is an SE model but it doesn't have the SE quarter windows. It's a hardtop.

So, is it a Ralley hardtop with the SE grille?
Did the Ralley models also have a WH vin?

WP29 would be an SE. And you're right, there's no 72 SE quarter windows. Hideaway headlights were standard on the SE but available as an extra cost on Rallye cars. It is possible the car is a Rallye, just missing the original doors, or, it's had some parts added, like the hood, Rallye cluster, taillights, headlights, etc.  The Rallye package could be on a WH23 hardtop or WL21 Coupe. In this case the car is a G code 318, which didnt require the A57 Rallye package, but a V21 or A57 on the fender tag would prove it was Rallye. I had a 72 hardtop with concealed headlights that wasn't a factory Rallye, I'd have to dig up a fender tag pic, very odd ball.

Let the dirt on the steering wheel build up a few more layers & you'd be almost the same diameter as a tuff wheel!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

All True.  I wonder where the Rallye doors went ?  72's also did not come with a 360, or did they ?
Could be a SE and someone like me removed the SE filler Panel and the 10 pounds of bondo that came with that package.  Who knows, it's 45 year old history.
That crappy 8 1/4 rear end tells me it was just a base model. Just my 2 Cents.  :Twocents:

10:1 this is a base WH23 318 engine ($3,020.00), A06 easy order group ($522.95), with A77 topper package ($155,60) giving you all the goodies mentioned. A car did not have to be a rallye to get the rallye gauge cluster if the right boxes were simply checked. Its more likely that the hood and taillights have been added than rallye doors removed from a rust free car. The other clue is that the underside looks relatively untouched and the rear rallye-only sway bar is absent.

The only way to be sure its a rallye is A57 on the fender tag or the sales paperwork, but there are enough clues here to guess that its a common WH23 topper with a few modifications.

The car below in my banner was originally a WH23 318 topper exactly optioned as this car appears to be with the exceptions being only the color combination and painted vs. chrome mirrors.

Was the rear sway bar Rallye only? My 72 SE had one.

Me too!  Even if it is gold. First order of business would be to clean the grunge off the steering wheel (and probably the shifter), vacuum the carpet & align the headlight doors.

sure I'd love to have it.. well it's a 72 ( shame is not a 73/74 LOL ), but whatever, I'd drive it

love the interior... just preffer console and floorshifter

and would install a BB, wider rims, rear sway bar, and done... well maybe tuff wheel too

The rear sway came with the rallye package. Whether or not you could have one added to any Charger I don't know, but I suspect it could have been. I'm just not aware of any option code that adds a rear sway bar on its own.

Interesting.   There was a WP29 '73, not as nice as this car although a 4 speed car, stating it was a Rallye as well.  Lynch road car and didn't have the 2 codes you mentioned either.  Seems to be at a point of, prove it isn't from sellers.

I had a look at the listing. I really doubt that fender tag belongs to that car. Or A LOT has been changed (entirely possible over 40+ years). The SE was JA5, is there any under that blue? M52, yet no sunroof. The SE was a big block, this car has a small block, no Brougham SE interior, buddy seat missing, etc. etc.

EDIT: No power windows. Looks like a 4 speed hump possibly though.

Also, Lynch road cars rarely had V21 or A57 on the fender tags and their absence (on WH or WL cars) doesn't mean they're not true Rallye cars.

Brougham even very common on SEs, was not really mandatory. I have seen several SEs with standard interior
Remember 73 SEs could get the roll down window option instead louvers

However aside that it seems the Radiator born there, due the opening for it. BB got bigger radiator and larger radiator support opening. Also it got small block passenger inner fender, not BB.

I'm agree could got a Fender tag from another car.
