Trans leak. How to fix?

While I have the engine and trans out for my frame build/swap, I decided to go ahead and fix my tranny (727) leak. It has been leaking at the snap ring cover on the tailshaft above the tranny mount.  I replaced the gasket and after 4 days, I noticed there was tranny fluid on the bolts again.
What do y'all do to get it to not leak? I hate to do all this work and put a leaking tranny back in. I used NAPA grey compressed gasket material. I cleaned the paint off the surface and cleaned it with alcohol, so it was clean and dry when I put the new gasket on.

I'll give RTV a shot when I put the new mount on tonight (going from the block type to spool).
But I just looked at the gasket and it looks like it is saturated, I'll have to look for a rubberized material.

I find that the heavy paper gaskets work better than the cork but a little RTV can't hurt.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I get the same thing from 2 bolts! What is rtv?

Silicone. You can get Permatex gasket maker at most auto parts stores, hardware stores, and grocery stores that have an automotive section like Walmart.
I'm going to have to try the gasket again. My new one is indeed saturated. Looks like the fluid on my bolts was coming down from there. I pulled the bolts out and the threads didnt have any fluid on them. The holes for the bolts that hold the cover on are blind, so I will just get some rubberized gasket paper and put RTV on the threads for good measure.

I've never had the thick gasket leak but currently I've stopped using PAN gaskets and gone to Permatex Auto trans RTV and have not had a single leak. It should work fine at the snap ring cover. put it on fairly thick and put the screws in at close to zero clearance but not at all tight. Let is set up over night the tighten the last turn or two. Perfect every time. Forget the gasket.

Thanks. I ordered a patch of rubberized compressed gasket. It that doesn't work I'll try the RTV alone. If its leaking now, it would be worse later since the pan is empty and the TC is in my trunk.

The pan gasket on my '72 leaks no mater what I do: RTV, no RTV, rubber, cork. I just put a pan under it now and accept it. If someone has a foolproof fix I'm standing by...

Make sure it's the pan gasket, and not the dipstick, shift or kickdown seal, or the o ring above the pan rail in the back - name of the pivot shaft it seals escapes me at the moment.
Mopar forever!

Ya' know what, I spoke too soon, I was under the car yesterday and it looks like the leak stopped...maybe I should check fluid level  :shruggy:
