I just found a 70 Charger 500 SE. There is some surface rust on the spokes of the steering wheel.  What material are those spokes? Recommendation to remove the rust?
Thanks in advance.

I just used some wd-40 on a rag and some 0000 steel wool, and it came off on mine, after it is off, wax the spokes with paste wax.

Be careful with that wheel as it's worth about a bajillion dollars! ;)

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Sounds silly but the rust that was on mine was so light on the surface that it came off by scraping it with a fingernail. Slow but worked.

The rust on here is a little deeper.  Does anyone know the material on this bajillion dollar wheel on the spokes?  Chrome coated? Stainless steel?  Doesnt look like aluminum?  Not wanting to scratch or etch it with anything while at the same time getting it out.  You can see the indicator rod is quite rusty as well...
Thanks again.

I think it's nickle plated brushed steel.

Mine had some light rust so the WD40 and 0000 wool trick worked great. Give it a shot and make sure to keep the spokes wet. If it works follow up with some wax. I use furniture paste wax on mine.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The spokes on the 68-70 B-body woodgrain steering wheels has a satin chrome finish. Yes it is chrome.

You can use very fine (0000) steel wool on it and it will not harm it.

Do not use any type of abrasive such as sandpaper, scuff pads or compounds.

Protect it with a non abrasive metal polish or a good car wax.

Any questions about any woodgrain Mopar steering wheel, feel free to contact me.

Thanks everyone for posting these tips. I've left mine alone not wanting to ruin it. I'll try the 00 steel wool.

Never use steel wool dry, always use it with a lubricant like soapy water or similar. As others have said use a wax to protect the finish afterwards.
