Intermittant starting problem

My charger sometimes refuses to crank even though the battery is working fine. Originally I thought it was the neutral safety switch, but when it won't turnover in park, moving it to neutral doesn't help. The battery is new and the battery connections are clean. It usually starts fine, but I'd say once in 10 it won't turnover.
Any ideas?

Hmmm. So when it doesnt start, what do you do to make it start?

M5Ivan

Logical question.... It eventually starts like there isn't an issue. It may start on the next try 10 seconds later, or it may take 10 minutes or so for it to work again.

Strange indeed. Makes me think ignition switch?

Just to be clear when it doesn't work it's 'turn the key and get nothing?'  No click even?

No clicking when it decides not to start. All of the instruments power up when I turn the key, but sometimes it just doesn't click.

Check for slop on the yellow wire connector on the starter relay. This is the connection you use if you want to use a remote start switch :Twocents:

You must find what is failing, while it's not working. That will have someone holding it in crank position while you do volt checks. Many times just wiggling wires while holding in crank will locate trouble.

hot or cold if its when hot could be starter motor solenoid getting hot my Chevy does this when its hot

I'll try this next.
I cleaned up the connections and found that the yellow wire wasn't firmly inserted.
Thanks for everyone's ideas, I'll let you when I get to the bottom of this.

I had the same problem. Will start fine for weeks or months. Usually happens when I'm at a car show or a cruise night and have to start the car with a screw driver.  A couple of friends have 70 chargers they have the same problem. There key switch is on the column.  Ive tried different ign switches, starter relays, starter. checked connections. Kind of Embarrassing to get out and start the car with my screw driver.  I installed a hidden push button switch to solve the problem. Turn the key on push the button starts right up.  Just connect it to the small wire and large battery wire on the starter. Bypass the relay all together.
I think the problem might be with the wire harness fire wall plug connections.

I also had same problem. In my case it was the starter relay, and it was a new one !
