EPA wants to ban racing mods.

Well said.

Sometimes I wish those in power and those in charge of corporations had a level of long term personal and professional accountability that was proportional to the long term consequences of the decisions they make.  I believe that many are motivated by short term profit and personal gain rather than careful consideration of the consequences and reason.  I am more concerned with accountability for calculated decisions rather than honest mistakes.  As bad as it is, the EPA rules of the past have driven changes that have made a difference for people like me and my kids.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

It's scary that Road & Track didn't see this for what it is.

Look at the millions of dollars the aftermarket industry would lose if this did go into effect.  It'd shrink down to nothing more than aftermarket radios, wheels, and the junk you buy at Wal-Mart.  Lots more people in the unemployment line, that's for sure.

QuoteI would like to see proof of this

Proof of what?   :shruggy:

The EPA was saying "by the way, we also technically reserve the right to govern hot-rodding" in the tiniest small-print they possibly could.  They knew it would cause a ruckus so they got dirty about trying to sneak it through.  They would not have risked causing the ruckus if they were not really after the power this awards them.

I would like to see how much of a difference (in terms of contributions to pollution and GHGs) that this will make.    I would find it surprising if the contributions made by racers and hotrodders compares in the least to the contributions made by energy suppliers, air travel, and manufacturing.   I might be wrong, and maybe it is a point versus delocalized source or some other trace gas that is not produced by these  :shruggy: :shruggy:  Or is there a part of the population or a type of vehicle that is being modded that makes a real difference.

The effects of modified cars are ridiculously small in the big scheme.  It's purely about punishing the car/motorsports world on principle.

punishing motor sports on principle makes no sense.  There must be more to it that I am misunderstanding.

Okay, seriously -

I don't think the "principle" is to punish us, but the principle is to take more control.  Big govts/agencies like ours do not naturally leave the public's rights alone.  They take control by default.  Then they start taking rights away by default.

It's like the destruction of the middle class.  The process always starts to happen by itself unless particular (and ongoing) efforts are made to fight it.
