Does anyone else get the impression that "original paint" means "I was too cheap to keep my car looking good"?

I see it only as a positive. Even if the paint sucks, If I'm buying the car I don't have to worry about what is under a repaint.

I have original paint on 2 of my trucks. What's left of it any way! They aren't worth enough to spend any money on. I'm imagining that this was they way with our classic cars for most of their lives. At some point they got kicked out of the garage (if they were ever in one) and sat in the elements for a few decades. If they were waxed regularly the paint would have been mostly rubbed off by now. I have 3 classic cars right now in original paint and the neglected paint also meant a lot of other stuff was neglected too. On the other hand, I have 2 that were "repaired" in the 80s and "quality" was not part of the vocabulary.

Agreed. Depends on what you are looking for in a car but for mopars in my price range, original paint would be a good thing.
Everything else is anyone's guess. (again in my price range)  :Twocents:

Not necessarily, this is origonal paint and interior from '72. Does it show its age up close? Yup, but still shines and only 1 small imperfection on the driver seat.

Let's put it this way, the reason the paint on my 97 Dodge Ram is still in great condition is that I only wash it once a year or longer and have never waxed, when I do wash it, it shines like a new truck. Accourse with all the scratches in the clear coat (which is also in perfect condition) it could use a mild buffing. I'm a firm believer that if you wash it once a week and waxing every other month or so, you are in effect washing/ waxing the paint right off.

I'd be willing to bet that's how we get "survivor" original paint cars.....
