So I went to adjust my drivers door window frame assembly a tad.
I began to loosen the nut below the wing window when.........snap!
The freakin' stud snapped off nut and all. Crap.

I need an entire frame now correct?   :flame:

No it can be welded back on and you won't be able to see it.  But the frame has to come out.

How would that work Dino? Drill out the old stud and weld in an same thread bolt?

I have noticeable scratches in the glass so I'll have to send money to AMD. Anyone else
make good glass?

Aired down my tires to 32psi. Just seemed the 235 60's sat low but a 440 is a heavy mill.

Yep, cut the stud flush with the frame and drill it out.  Stick a flat head bolt through the back and weld it in there.  The chrome may discolor with welding but if you're careful it should be minimal and covered up once installed.  I had the same happen on my 68.

I can't help with the glass, never had to order any but I am curious to hear, my ds quarter has one hell of a scratch on it.

Make sure the 32 psi is measured with the tires stone cold.  The heavy front will always squish the tires a bit so just make sure you don't have a bulging sidewall.  If you give it too much air you run the risk of losing traction in turns, especially on slippery roads.  Better to have it a bit too low than too high imo.

That sucks Tom! That doesn't sound like a fun chore in my book!

gotta love these old cars. Everything is tight and right with the car so its
not urgent I make this repair.  :shruggy:

Dropped to 32 psi this morning before it got its bath.

Neal,

In that link you offered Shakey had a picture of the wing window frame.
I couldn't copy and paste it here but almost at the bottom
of the leg of the frame is the stud I snapped off.
Seems grinding it flush then drilling the remainder would be
easy. I don't thinking welding in a new stud would discolor
the wing window frame chrome........

Yeah.....pulling the door panel, upper pad, glass and frame.......
the smallest things seem to require the most work.

Is this a freakin' law somewhere?  :shruggy:

It's exactly why I'm driving around with no interior the last few years!  I got the rear 1/4 windows fixed nice and will be doing the doors windows next.  :2thumbs:
This is Shakes write up:

Tom, can you clarify what exactly broke?
See the pic below. Is this the area you are referring to?
If so, is it the loop part that goes over this stud, or the stud itself that is attached to the bottom of the door frame?  :scratchchin:

Good morning Bill,

No, it's the wing window frame leg that attaches to the door hinge
side of the door shell itself.

In this post from Shakey the top picture shows this frame "leg" and
the mounting stud.

OK, so you mean the stud that the wing window "fork" slips over?  :scratchchin:
That stud is part of a stamped steel triangular shaped bracket that bolts to the front part of the door on the inside. Easy fix if that's the part. Remove the bracket (unbolt it from the door), drill out the broken stud, tap it, and install a bolt of the same length.
Really trying to help you, just having a hard time picturing which part broke.

I know Bill, thank you.

I'll look through my FSM and see if I can find a picture of this stud.
This stud is a part of the frame itself and passes through a hole in the front part of the door.
The nut is then fastened on it from the outside.

I suspect the fix is similar........pull the frame, drill out and replace the broken stud, reassemble.

OK, pretty sure now what's broken. Sounds like your vent window assembly itself is fine.
Check out the pic below (scrounged from the 'net). This is a vent window mount bracket, it goes in the inside of the front part of the door. There are two 1/4-20 nuts on the inside of the door frame up top that hold this bracket in place, they easily break. The "fork" on the vent window passes over the larger threaded stud and is held in by a nut.
You should be able to remove this bracket (hopefully) without removing the vent window assembly from the car. Drill out & repair any of the broken studs (again, you can thread the drilled & use bolts their place), and reinstall.
Good luck!

Hi Bill,

After looking at the FSM, I broke off the lower vent frame stud. The FSM
made that clear.......why didn't I think of check it in the first place?  :shruggy:

Everything else is tight so I don't think there's any hurry to replace it.

Thanks again.
