Hello all again.
Well it's time to rebuild a 440 (1978 440 cast crank engine I have, with tranny), I am asking for any help in performance. I am trying to rebuild the 440 for street performance (weekend driver).  I guess what I am asking is for selecting the best parts at reasonble prices. I am looking for a forged crank, forged piston, better cam. What do you guys think I need to get the best torque hp? Does anyone know of a rubuilt kit I can buy for performance 440 (what would the end result hp/torque be)?

440 source is worth checking with , they can supply a kit with crank rods & pistons
generally I use clevite / Michigan 77 brgs , Plasma moly rings , speed Pro 2355 pistons , I use a few different cams depending on Hyd or solid & apllication Engle make a great hyd street cam

Hi, wasn't sure if I should start a thread or tag on here.

I am starting an engine rebuild class this quarter, my 440 is dissasembled and cleaned and at the school.  My car has 2500 stall with ratchet shifter.
I am starting from scratch on buying the internals.  I have bought a 262 Chrysler cam but want prob. more like a 282 at least.  I don't know how much difference the pistons make, forged?    I have bought some HP exhaust manifolds.  I have bought a Thermoquad 850 cfm. carb.  Prob. will use an Edelbrock medium rise intake at least.    I have custom exhaust that are around  2 1/2 inch.  I figure my exhaust may be the limiting factor, don't want to go to headers or bigger exhuast, and the carb and intake are big for that exhaust, hoping I can get use at least a 282 cam, or bigger?

Advice appreciated, or websites of good places to buy parts, as I and the school/instructor are doing the labor, my cost will be parts.  Like everyone, just want most bang for the buck.  I don't know if the engine can be balanced at the school machine shop, guessing no.
Thank you, Nate

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

I always use forged pistons
for the cam I need a lot more info to match it up properly

Good parts sources would be www.440source.com for a crank kit (if you really want to buy a new crank - many folks believe a cast crank would be fine to 500 hp). Rebuild kits can be found at www.summitracing.com for a good price.

Thank you, that site has everything.   Now I gotta figure what all I need to buy.
