Why 5º advance timing could cause backfiring, if is still advanced from closed valves ?

carb setup???? ???  nothing to do with timing, it should'nt backfire at 5*deg initial. ;)

Nacho-RT74

what I suppose... but with a TQ no one never knows...

iddle mixture or metering rods adjust ?
floats lever ? but I adjusted floaters as stated on guide... 1 1/16"

what motor are we talking about? 440 or 383 factory spec is 5* initial!!!!

Nacho-RT74

400... no, fact specs is 8º ( haynes manual ) but I didn't know was in 5º and got backfiring...

sorry I edited the last reply... check it.

one thing for sure... now I have it around 10º... but I don't know why timimg is weird moving on scale, some sparks are more delayed and some sparks more advanced... maybe just 1º or 2º forward and backward, but spark didn't look to be fixed on 5º, neither now on around 10º.

Checked with vacuum unplugged

i assume you have electronic ignition??? you could check the reluctor gap with a non-metal feeler guage????   otherwise i would'nt worry about it, 1*-2* could just mean a slightly worn dist, just monitor it and see if it gets worse???  you could also have a slight vacuum leak, hook up a vacuum guage see if that's steady, you could need to adjust the idle mixture screws, maybe even the vacuum advance is on the verge of advancing, make sure the vacuum advance is dosconnected and plugged when checking timing. ;D

I made it disconected... but you are saying both LOL

yes electronic ignition. I'll check gap when I find a non metallic feeler. I have a metallic one.

Once I got dist bushing worn and did bite the reluctor. I just milled down a little bit the reluctor teeth to get it plain again, and replaced bushing.

BTW... do you know where to find a rebuilt kits for dist ? I'm talking basically about bushing, collar... the lower section housing/shaft related

i don't know about the rebuild kits, but they should'nt be hard to find.

what i meant about the vacuum advance when checking timing is to disconnect the vaccum hose to the vaccum advance , and plug the hose with a screw or something, otherwise you effectively have a vacuum leak if you don't plug it. ;D

Nacho-RT74

Oh ok... LOL... yes... I did with a screw. Even beeing a ported tee, it shouldn't be a big problem with opened port as far I don't give throtle to carb.
I did plugged with a screw anyway

I'm not be able tro find kit down here by the moments, but maybe I can if Chrysler has an inventory up there and I try to import throught a Mopar dealer here
