Any one have thoughts about this engine?.....I want to buy one soon but have always been leery of diesels....
I understand this engine has been used for years overseas and is actually owned in part by GM?.....
the MPG impresses me over the Hemi...but I don't want to give up long term operating cost/repairs for a few MPG

will post on a ram site but was curious if any one here owns one

Anyone have any experience?

Diesels aren't worth it today. Too expensive to buy, fuel costs more & worst of all, they've loaded them down with more emissions controls which lower fuel mileage and will be very expensive to fix once they break; especially the pump and heater that throws that water shit into the exhaust.

Trust me, I know.

:iagree: Give me a 2015 ram with an old mechanically injected 12 valve cummins, then we'll be talking!
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

And even if FCA has this all figured out and reliable for  today, the goverment will change the fuel regulations tomorrow and you will be toting the aforementioned shit pail.   Which is exactly what happened to the 2006+ Isuzu NPRs.  This is also one of the reasons UD pulled out of the U.S.

that would be awesome. my 2006 cummins has been great with 122k on it, my advice to you "reworked" is that if you need a diesel then maybe look for a older one.
mine is super easy to work on, and doesn't have all the emission crap.
what do you intend to use it for? if you are really interested one of our salesman from a different town has one. i can ask his opinion.

I also agree.   I have no use for newer diesels.   Not worth it.  Either the Ford 7.3 or the older Dodge Cummings are good motors.

The Eco is pushing 29 MPG on the highway.   Diesel is currently less than 87 in Chi-town.

All 3/4 ton trucks now don't get crap for mileage.   This new ECO is impressive.

Until the emissions screw up & all your fuel savings went into repairs.   :eek2:
