Not my 68 Charger, but at the moment a 87 Dakota with a 99 5.9 that has Hughes heads, original 904 transmission, headers and 3" single exhaust.  That truck is nothing like it was when I bought it new.!  So, now the idea is to fix up my 67 Belvedere, like the Charger, with a rebuilt 360 and A-518 overdrive/lockup transmission to work.  Mainly four lane road for fourteen miles and a little bit of in town driving, that is, small city.  I am looking forward to driving the Belvedere every day. It will look rough to keep others away from me, but it will run like a scalded dog.

Both of these are. But both are currently down-the '69 is having it's floors replaced, and my '73 is almost done being repaired from the deer damage.

Dude!  I didn't scroll down far enough and only saw the 69.  I thought what a strange thing to say that your girl is down.  My bad

Folks forget B Body is a darn good car!

If a man could have only 1 car,  what would he choose?

Your choice is a wise one  :)

Who would rely on a 40-45 car to get them to/from work.  Try explaining that to the Boss.

My '68 Charger is currently not only my daily driver, it's my only transportation and I work a 40 mile round trip to/from work.
I moved to Jackson, Ms from Columbus, Ms back in October of last year due to a job opening at the Harley dealership. I have 2 other cars, a 1989 FireBird Formula (stripped out teeth on the 'flywheel'. And, a 66 Chrysler Newport that the previous owner had the engine rebuilt and exchanged the crankshaft from forged to cast with no concept of mopar driveline balance. So it's parked until  I can resolve this issue.
Simon (my 68)  is literally my only running car at this time.
My only problem with him right now is that he spews power steering fluid. If I was back at my shop in Columbus, I'd put him on my lift and swap out the steering gear box I already have for the old tired one.  But, that's hard to do when u work 6 days a week and have no access to a lift.
Anyway,  here is my 'daily driver' (40+ miles a day) at his new current home.
And he runs 70 mph with his 3.23 gears and loves it,,I can almost feel him PURRRRRRR. or is that start are a ROAR ???,,lol
I just replaced his 15+ year old ignition system and new float valves in his very old 1406 Edelbrock carb and he seems like he gained at least 30 or so more HP  :)
And, he fires up within 1 revolution of the crank in the morning :)

I'm planning on getting a dash cam after the steering box swap just to post a vid on youtube of an unrestored 68 Dodge Charger being driven to and from work 40 miles everyday except sunday. And see what these cars are still capable of some 4-5 decades of time later.
And,  by the way,, he's not just my Car...  he's my Buddy :)  ..We've been through a LOT in the last 15 years or so.

I'm truly inspired by your story and truly inspired by your hellish 68, I love that car (Daytona wing and the red hood insert paint). I kinda wish I was in your spot and only having my 68 as my only transportation. But I have my 2001 Dodge ram so the Charger sits as I get it to the way I want it to be before puting it on the road.

Good luck to you and your great 68

Ty Vegas, I didn't see my current status with my Charger as inspiring,  but glad you did. Every bit of it is true.
I do however get several 'photo shoots' per/week  ,,about 5 - 10 on the interstate ...folks hanging their cell phones out of the window as we pass, and many at gas stations,, and walmart and such. They seem to be amazed that it runs. I'd be amazed if he didn't run.
He's not so much my car as he is my travel buddy that gets me where I need to be. And does it with a grin :)

Just depends on the day really...

As much time as I spend time in the Concord / Pleasant Hill/ Walnut Sheik area I am surprised that I have not seen it around yet!

My daily drivers have always been 70's cars, no problems here. My current car doesn't have a heater but I guess I'm used to it. I will admit sometimes the creature comforts are nice, but I'd still take an old car over a new one any day.

My daily driver is getting a new engine and trans and will make for a fun toy.

I pretty much drive mine daily, and if not the Charger than one of my other classics.  Unrebuilt 318 with 225K on it.  I have a 70 mile round trip commute and I work a professional-type job; never missed a day of work or was late to a meeting due to the car.  I just keep up on the maintenance and make repairs as needed, just like with any other car.

Not a Charger, but a guy I work with daily drives a 4 door 57' Chevy. It's by no means show quality, but a pretty decent looking car. Anytime anyone questions him on driving a classic in all weather he just kinda tilts his head and replies "they were designed to be driven"

Here's mine...  Bone stock '71 Challenger with the original, unrebuilt 225 /6 and 904.  Sitting in the parking lot at work right now, waiting for the 30 mile drive home.  She sat in a back yard for 30 years before I bought her 2 years ago and put her back on the road with a new fuel tank, fresh brakes and the old wheels from my '67 Charger.

The drive in to work a few days ago...

Love it...add some rust holes and duct tape over big rust issues and it looks like my 70 Charger did!  :2thumbs:
