Hello,

Looking for a driver that I can drive and tinker with. I'm going to look at this 71 dart and hoping you guys can offer opinions of value as it sits. Here is the ad,

71 Dodge Dart with a built 69 340, 904 Trans with a 8 3/4 391 posi Rear, Car is in nice condition. Needs a few minor things on the inside, could use a new front seat cover & headliner has a few bad spots. Trades ??? $6500 firm.

He said there is bubbling on both rockers see pic of one, said there was a hand size hole in driver floor that was fixed but rest of floors and trunk are good. Is the 904 teams appropriate for the340?

All replies of value and advice will be greatly appreciated! Pics at link below.

Thanks!

Dave

depending on the the horsepower of the 340, a 904 will be fine as long as you're also not "racing" it around town.

Most online decoders suck.

A Demon would have 29 in the VIN, not 23.

Daytona R/T SE

That thing looks awfully rough to me.

Lots of hidden rust starting to come through.

For $6500 I'd pass on this one.

Actually, I'd pass on it at any price.

It needs too much work for what it is.  :Twocents:

Don't let shiny paint lead you astray. If it needs to be repainted because its rusting, then picture it in your mind spray-bombed with 3 different colors of primer. Would you still buy the car for $6500?

Thanks Guys! How do you see lots of hidden rust coming through? Is that based on the one pic of the rocker with the bubbling? I cant see anything else and thought the car looked pretty straight with good lines. I just want to make sure none of the replies are based on the 2nd dart on my Flickr account which shows more rust.

Is it safe to assume that seeing one or two bubbles under the paint is a good indication that there is going to be more soon?

I am leaning towards passing on this one but need to know this stuff as I continue to look.

Thanks!

Dave

303 Mopar

All of those rust bubbles are probably only 10% of the total rust on that car.  Certainly better Darts out there for that price.

Thanks 303! I guess the search continues.
