Hey all. I have an Infinity M45 and the rims are getting some black crap on them. The pass side rear is the worst (like this when I got it). It looks like something liquid got on them and is/was eating the finish away. Tried goff off , thinner ,etc ,nothing does anything. Ideas? Suggestions? Center cap not affected at all.
God must love stupid people....he made a sh**load of 'em....

Matco tools...guaranteed for a lifetime. Just not a human lifetime.

Looks like someone tried to clean them with some kind of acid. Sandblast and paint or powder coat is what I would do. :Twocents:

Center cap isn't affected because it's plastic, probably.  I would just plast-dip the whole thing...

Are those wheels clearcoated? I restored the finish on my clearcoated aluminum Truck wheels by sanding them with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, then reclearing them with spray can clear.

That technique works good for clearcoated alloys.

However, if their anodized, I doubt that technique would work. Theyd have to be repainted, then cleared most likely.

Looks like they were painted silver originally? If so that's  probably the remnants of the cleaning bath they went thru before paint. When left there it's not a good place for adhesion . The paint fails and fals off.
