Although I'm supposed to whip up a fictional training manual by Monday, I just had to share this as I have difficulty wrapping my head around it.

I started taking college classes in 05/2010 with the idea of becoming an orthotist/prosthetist.  I worked in the field at the time.  It took me until 08/2013 to complete and transfer 60 credits to a 4 year university.  These were mostly general education classes that would transfer because of an agreement between colleges and universities.  I worked full time throughout.  My first semester in college I took only 6 credits as I was working 50-60 hours a week.  By this time I felt that the direction I chose was not the most ideal and on the advice of my wife I looked into becoming a Physician's Assistant.  It didn't take me long to be convinced of going that route and since the earned credits all transferred still, I was good to go.  I picked Exercise Science as my undergraduate major as it contained much of the core classes needed to apply to PA school; I took other prerequisite classes for the program as I went through the Exercise Science program.

It is now finals week; I have one more final on Monday night, along with having to submit this 50 page manual I have yet to start on.   :icon_smile_big:

After Monday I will have a few weeks off and I then start a 6 month internship at a Michigan hospital in cardiac rehabilitation.  I have one case study to present at school at the end of summer for that,... and that is it.  This long journey will be over.  Graduation is in August and the internships ends in January.  PA school doesn't start until 05/2016 so besides applying to a few schools by 9/1, I will be done with papers, and quizzes, and projects, and exams, etc.

And that I cannot wrap my mind around just yet.  5 years is a long time to be so involved in school and having a year off is going to be really weird.  Not bad!  Just weird.

A nice bonus is that if I do well on the project and final, I will graduate with a 4.0!   :boogie:

If anyone has ever wondered if going back to school is worth it then let me tell you it absolutely is.  I will be 44 when I finally become a PA, but it'll be worth the wait and then some.   :yesnod:

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

I graduated at 32, wife at 34.  It was  a big decision to take those four years out of our lives (she worked while I went and the opposite.)  Never regretted it.

Congrats on your degree and good luck in the new life.

Dino, Great story of success and determination. That shows with your GPA.  :2thumbs:

Dino

I just received my final grades, A's on everything so I get to keep the GPA.  I'm feeling really weird, as if not sure what to do with myself.  I think I'll go take a nap for a week or so.   :2thumbs:
