Is RAM losing the crosshair grille?

First, it was the concept truck earlier this year without the signature crosshair grille, and now they introduce the luxury model for next year without the crosshair.
The 2016 Ram Laramie Limited:

They obviously also want to let Chevy people know who they're following:

Personally, I'd rather Ram keep the crosshair, and let Dodge come up with a different grille.  It's the most identifying feature in a field of copy cat pick ups.

Kern Dog

Sure looks like they are trying too hard.
The grille is ugly.

Ghoste

I agree with ya JB.  That grille looks good on the truck so they tried to make it fit stylistically on all of the cars, which it doesn't.  Now that the cars are good and uglified they need to find something even worse than the Ford grille for trucks?

They should make the word RAM on the tailgate bigger,  you can barely see it.

Ghoste

And maybe put led lighting in it.  Lots of high power led lighting.

Instead of R A M on the tailgate it should have big letters that spell out  U G L Y  :eek2:

I thought the 3" RAM on the door of my 2014 was bad enough. I took them off within 10 minutes of picking up the truck. I mean I get it on the Power Wagon, that was part of its branding. In this instance I think they are doing too much. Looks gaudy. Instead keep it classy. If you want a sport or off road version that is in your face then fine. But not for this trim line.

And the grille nostrils I am not sold on. As much as I like the cross hair and I am open to a styling change this doesn't do it for me. Maybe if they lost the bulls nostrils and downsized the RAM wording, or better yet put the Ram head back, it would be more appealing to me.

What the hell were the designers thinking????

That looks nasty butt ugly ghetto IMO.

Or should it say Fiat. ?
Why did they do away with the "Dodge" name anyway.

Maybe just do a red led light going back & forth like a Cylon in the grill. .

The Dodge name has been gone from the truck line for a few years now in place of RAM just as they did the same with SRT. Jeep is also separate. My guess is the marketing geniuses at Chrysler at that time were separating the brands for when the time comes that they eventually bump off Dodge.

However, they recently brought SRT back under the Dodge brand, so maybe things today are not what they were when they did that.

IF they are going to change the grille less is more.......I like my version better

Good work DC-1.  I agree with your revised grille design and smaller logo....  Less is always more!  :yesnod:   There's no reason to pile on with those current "in your face designs" of Ford and Chevy....  :eek2:

If they continue to position themselves as the great looking truck (its always been) ...people will buy it IMO.

I bet this grille is already an element in the next generation Ram and this is just a quick refresh to get them from here to there. With the completely redesigned Ford F-150 and the new GM if they want to keep the momentum they have in the truck segment they need a completely new model soon. Granted the interior on the Ram has been completly redesigned recently but for the most part this is the same truck that has been around since 2009

I'm guessing its the same as this....so we better get used to it.

When it comes to grilles, it seems like they designed themselves into a corner they can't design thier way out of.

moparnation74

Change the grille.  Ditch the chrome mirrors and paint to match.  Remove the ram on the back and it will look decent.

JB400

Personally, I like the current big rig style truck.  I liked it when they went to the 94 bodystyle.  It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if they just stuck with it.  They don't have to be like Ford or Chevy.  They're established their own signature, they should stick with it.

This grille style should be sold through the Mopar catalog, not on the production line.  It's a nice custom piece, but not a production piece.

twodko

I can sorta stomach the grille design but the tailgate is just skid row.
