If you check out the latest issue of Hot Rod magazine on sale now, they list the 2nd gen Charger as the #8 hottest trend of 2015.  It won't be going out of style anytime soon. :2thumbs:

Isn't a trend a lot the same as a fad though, are they kind of just calling it the 8th most popular fad so far for the year (that we are a month and a half into)?

We don't need Hot Rod magazine teliing us how popular our cars are with the public. Take your car to any car show, rally or just a car gathering and stand back. out of all the Chevy's, Ford's and whatever are there, the Mopar's, specifically the Chargers, always get the most attention and pictures taken of them.

No different than current stock market valuations, where there is most certainly a percentage of liquidity, parked to retain "value" of any kind, and looking for some quality.
Gen 2's will be fine for awhile yet, but there is also a demographic pressure that is bound to fade as the old guys kick off.

2nd-gens have been popular cars for almost 50 years now.  They haven't been cheap any time in the last 25 years.  I think the demand will remain high at least a few more years.

Based on some of their other top 10s, yeah, its best to ignore it. Brightly colored wheels, uhh, sure, whatever. Just because it appears on fabricated television shows doesn't mean its really cool at its core.

a few years so the 3rd year they will plummet?  Theres articles out there right now how there is gonna be a car bust like the housing bust....69 daytonas for 500 dollars, hellcats for 10k, etc...all because of analysts saying cars are getting out of hand.

Are cars getting out of hand, or is inflation making the numbers bigger for the same value? 

Even if they are getting out of hand, the fallen value still won't be very low in the big scheme of things.

Inflation is certainly a big part of it, and I think wages as well.

Here is an example from the Site "Dollar Times", that uses the U.S.A. published CPI Index.

$4,000 in 1969, now equals $26,259.

Granted, not many Chargers cost $4k Back then, but not too far off.
And if one considers REAL Inflation which is always higher, as opposed to Gov't "published" CPI... not hard to extrapolate the stupid prices for some of these cars, especially within a finite "supply" built 45 years ago vrs demand.
Add in today's distorted asset markets where everyone is looking for value, ANY value to hold against negative real interest rates ?
PRESTO ! = stoopid prices !

But IMO,
as the older guys who grew up with these cars die off, the rationale to demand should subside somewhat ? Still a decent asset for the foreseeable future though.

I disagree. These cars are cemented as iconic, therefore their value will continue to rise despite demographics changes.

Case in point, the original hot rod generation that built jalopies pre and post WW2 are almost all gone or certainly high enough in age to have practically no influence on demand of pre war cars, yet these cars still sell for 100x their original cost.

Some cars are just the pinnacle of their eras and will always be in demand. 32 Fords, 55 Chevys, 69 Camaros, 69 Chargers, 71 Cudas, the value of these are pretty solid for quite some time to come. Whatever demand that slips from Boomers will be picked up by Millineals as they gain more influence and disposable income.

I'm with you.  I buy, build, and occasionally sell old 1930's-1960's Harleys.  Anybody that went and bought a new Harley knucklehead or Harley big twin flathead motorcycle is long gone.  Yet, they command much more money now than ever.  I think that once it's iconic, it'll hold it's place for generations.  I wasn't born until '77, but there was nothing about the 70's-80's era vehicles that really ever stood out and I think cars and motorcycles are getting less and less soul as time goes on.  Enthusiasts of things that go vroom will always be looking for something that makes a statement.  You'll just need to be either wealthy so you can afford it, or be a broke ass like me that has good luck when it comes to finding old Mopar and Harley gold.

No kidding. Even in 2000 when my car was a battered 30 year old with a 318, people still sparked up conversations at gas stations, outside auto parts stores, pretty much anywhere. Today I get all sorts of comments including.."You should get a set of 15" rally wheels".

Fronts are 18x9 with 4 3/4" backspace, 275-40-18 Nitto 555
Rears are 18x10 with 4 3/4" backspace 295-45-18 Nitto 555. The rear in the car is a narrowed C body housing measuring about 2 1/2" narrower than a stock 68-70 B housing.
