What will make my 73 more reliable as a driver?

Besides the fuel system what kind of ignition components will provide more reliable driving and starting on my 73 Charger 400-4bbl? Back when I drove it last summer in the 90+ heat and it cut off on me at the intersection it was actually suggested by a mechanic that it maybe indeed a failure in the ignition. But I believe it was a combination of the fuel heating and carburetor because after it finally wouldn't drive anymore that day we came back later at night, started it right up and drove it home no problem. All we did was change out the fuel filter in the parking lot where I parked it. I've still got the Weiand action plus manifold and the Edelbrock 1400 600CFM carb electric choke. Even when it was cold over Thanksgiving I drove it around the neighborhood a few times, it cut off and took forever to get it started again so maybe it's not fuel or maybe still is? Anyway over the winter when it was warm enough outside to get under the hood I added the recommended by Edelbrock heat insulator gasket and took off the factory steel fuel line from the pump to carb and added a high temp silicone hose instead, and installed an inline fuel pressure gauge to watch the pressure. I also had put a fuel stabilizer in the tank and that's why I drove it around Thanksgiving to let it run through the fuel system. I haven't yet driven or tested it because I still might swap out a leaking power steering pump. But if it doesn't cure the shutting off in hot weather is upgrading ignition the next route? Right now I've got the Mopar Orange restoration wires, like a Standard Ignition coil, Cardone Remanufactured distributor, and a Mopar Performance orange ECM. It was suggested that I do away with all the OEM and add an MSD module. If I'm looking for the most reliability instead of performance gains what's the best thing to do? It's hard to find a mechanic in my area anymore that's really a specialist in the older stuff like this.

Your coil or ecu may have some issues and they can be tested, but if you're not hell bent on leaving it stock I suggest getting the Firecore RTR system, works great on my car.

Before doing anything else I'd test all the current parts though.  If/when the car cuts out again, check for spark to rule out ignition issues.

The electrical system has to be up to date as well so you may want to do some upgrades in that department.  The piece of mind is priceless.

Once you figure out the issues, the best thing to do to make it more reliable is drive it as much as you can.  These things don't like to sit for very long.

By the description, sounds like ECU. Best thing to do is throw the Orange Mopar Box in the trash, go buy a Duralast ECU at Autozone. They are 20 bucks, have a lifetime warranty and last longer than any other ECU I have ever used. But I would check everything first and make sure its the ECU. Check your primary and secondary resistance on the coil, I would also check the pick up coil in the distributor, you can look up the 'values' it should read online, can't remember them off the top of my head... but with me anytime a pick up coil went bad... car wouldn't start at all.
