Thinking of buying these new Us car tool frame connectors.. They are the only ones that can be installed without drilling holes in your frame or welding.  They somehow bolt to the torsion bar crossmember. The pics on the site aren't great and I don't see any installed pics. Anyone use them? http://store.uscartool.com/66-70-B-Body-Bolt-on-Frame-Connectors_p_87.html

I don't think the "clamping" would be sufficient. Welding>Bolting>Clamping.

Will they help, yes. Will they be ideal, no.

IMO all frame connectors should be welded in , sort of defeats the object other wise  .

Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

I looked at these closely, they run close to the inside of the rockers. They tie directly to the rear springs forward mount in the rear and entrap the back of the torsion bar at their rear mounts. So the idea is to catch the stress points where they meet the chassis.  :scratchchin:

That's why they will work, although not ideal.

Sub frame connectors resist beaming motion, or pitch, primarily generated during a well hooking drag launch.  This motion would put these connectors into compression, so they would be effective in that regard.

The bolt aspect of it does allow some motion, how much it allows is very minor as we are talking about half the radius of the bolt through the holes, or probably less than the doors move on their latches under the same stress. Is it the best way to mount a structural member, no. Is it better than doing nothing, yes.

They are the only ones that can be installed without drilling holes in your frame or welding.

They do require drilling the crossmember.  From that link:  " A simple hand drill is all that is needed, we even include the 1/2" annular cutter for drilling the holes. When you are done, you can return the cutter for a $50 US Car Tool credit."  Although, they are still an interesting option to the mopar ones.  I would like to see a set installed as well.

myk

Welded in or don't bother.  I understand your reluctance though; watching someone take a torch to your pride and joy is not easy...

Looks like a gimmick to me.  A clamp on subframe connector? :rotz:

No, they do not require drilling the crossmember. That's the whole idea behind them. You drill the connectors thru once they are bolted in place not the car. There connectors are made from two different pieces and are bolted together by drilling two holes thru the square tubing. I agree weld-in connectors are the best, but if you have a car you want to keep original than these are probably better than having no connectors at all.

From the site: Do these require drilling holes in my car?

No, installing the 100% Bolt-in US Car Tool frame connectors does not require any drilling of new holes on your car. We use existing reinforced factory holes to mount the frame connectors. To accommodate any variation in exact wheelbase, we do not drill the final 4 holes in each frame connector. You will need to drill the frame connectors (not the car!) for an exact fit. This is a simple task with a hand drill and the special 1/2 annular cutter that is included with every set of frame connectors.

:2thumbs: Ok, got it.  I still to plan to weld some in, just not the full length contoured ones.

Id like to see those installed

If you all want to see an installation, with photos taken,  I'd volunteer to have my car done...who wants to chip in to buy the frame connectors for me?  ;)  All right, all right,  just kidding.

I'm intrigued, though. Be a quick install and probably an obvious improvement to stock. I'll have to seriously think on this....   :scratch chin:
