Hello,

my name is Marcel i am 31 and i living in Germany. I hope that in 2015 i can buy a 69 or 70 dodge charger with a 440cui. I have a question about the grill.
Can i mount the front grill from the 68 on the 69? I love the front from the 68 but i love more the back lights from the 69/70.
Is it possible to remove the chrome frame from the front from the 70? If you remove the Chrome frame than it could be looks like the 68 or?
Sorry for the questions but in Germany are not many Charger :-\

Tanks for help.

Marcel

Hello welcome,

The 70 fenders are not the same as 68,  grill wont work unless you change the fenders too i think

The chrome frame in 70 is actually the bumper so I don't think it would be a small undertaking.

68 and 69 will interchange with no problem.

1970 would require the grille, bumper, ft valance,  hood , hood latch assy and both fenders

Thank you so much for the friendly welcome

68 and 69 will interchange with no problem? Wow thank you for that good information.
If i dont get a charger next year in germany then i will fly to the USA and buy a charger there and ship it to germany. Can you please tell me some good websites where which are sold?

Thank you

there are several places to search for a charger. sounds like you are dead set on a second gen charger (68,69,70). as stated, the 70 will require the whole front clip to be swaped to achieve the 68 front look. try craigslist and then you can search by each state and city for what is available. you can also look on ebay. im sure others will also jump in with sales and areas to look. once you find one you are interested in, there are plenty of us here that can check a car out for you. we have members all across the country. usually for the price of a fast food lunch and a few bucks for gas, these guys will do wonders for you. that way you can help assure that you arent flying all the way over here for a piece of rust. good luck with your search, and welcome to the site!! :2thumbs:

Want to change a '69 grille for a '68? At least you're thinking right.  :icon_smile_wink:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thank you for the help. A nice community

I will try craiglist. I want a 69 with the 440. I don't care about matching numbers. SOME rust is not the problem. Dodge chargers are really expensive in germany. I hope i find a good one.
My budget is 30K but if i can find one for 10k and only SOME rust than i take this  :drool5:

Dollars or Euros? ;)

As others have said, the 1968 and 1970 front ends might appear more similar to each other, but take a closer look.  The '69s have the big center divider added to the grille but almost everything else on the 69 front end is the same as 68.   The 1970 Chargers had an entirely different front end from the 68/69 cars.  Fenders, hood, bumper, valance, grille frame, grille plastic, etc.

It's possible to bolt any of the 3 years front ends onto any of the others, but for 1970 it means changing way more parts.  1970 parts are the hardest to find (nobody wants to make replacement parts for the 1970 cars because the parts apply to fewer cars than the 68/69).

Also note 68 & 69's have different hood latches, the hood release is in a different location.
I'm doing the opposite, installing a 69 grill in a 68.

Before...

Improved (Grille has been restored/painted since, this is a test fit.)...

Excuse me that i not reply earlier

WOW Thx Jaak.

@Lennard: 10k Euros and the 30k are Dollars. I also mustn't forget that i pay the Shipping to Germany + taxes 7% + MOT Certificate + try to get the H license tag (VIN number for historical cars). If i don't get the H tag i must pay, i think it was 1850 EUROS taxes for a year.  :brickwall:  . With the H tag i pay 191 EUROS.

That's why i hope i get a nice one for under the 30k or one with some rust for 10k

Ask Carsten for some info about importing a car into Germany, he is German and has done it a bunch of times.

Agree with Lennard.  Carsten is the most knowledgeable Mopar German I've read.  His responses are normally short but informative.   :2thumbs:
